Best Vacuum Cleaner for Garage with Unpolished Concrete Surface?

I have a garage which I have been starting to use as a home office. However it tends to get very dusty. It has an unpolished concrete surface.

Should I use a wet and dry vacuum for this? How does the $50 Ozito vacuum compare?

im a blower rather than sucker

  • Mop it.

  • It's a nice little unit for the price. I use in a concrete surface also. No issues after approx 6 months of use.
I do use it with a Dust Deputy cyclone bucket thingy, so I never need to empty the dust bag.

  • No issues with the Ozito except it's noisy.
Been using mine for over a year for sucking up crap during reno's.
Gyprock dust, nails, whatever's in the way
Good little unit. Nothing special but does the job.
Can be used as a blower too.

  • Considered painting the floor?

The DETROIT 1400W 15L WET/DRY VACUUM DETVAC15P from total tools ($49.95) is slightly smaller but has a bigger motor and IMO is built better than the Ozito equivalent.

  • Wouldn't a nice broom be easiest? Or is the unpolished concrete too rough?

I don't mind a bit of a sweep. Nice rhythmic meditative activity. Potentially good break from office-ing/working if you are open to it.

I'd recommend applying an epoxy to the floor. You can get DIY kits from Bunnings. Makes cleaning so much easier.

  • Ozito unit is great. I think mine would be five years old and has picked up all sorts of rubbish, wet and dry.

When/if it dies, it will be replaced immediately with the same.

  • I'd recommend a 9 litre Henry for very dusty places that need regular cleaning; might be a bit expensive and also use bags, but they can handle large debris and are very well made, mine is more than 20 years old, and I also use it for reno work as it sucks up anything that will fit in the pipe.
They also do a smaller 6 litre "home" version that's 100 bucks cheaper that I call the Henrietta

  • Ozito vac is great, for only $50 why not give it a go. I'd also look into sealing gaps in your garage to stop dust getting in.
