Wasn't Sony exiting the Mobile markets?

    • LG

      • +4

Based on a quick Google Search, it appears that Sony Mobiles are slowly exiting some countries (such as India).

Also local AU stock for Sony Flagship phones are basically non-existent.

        • Sony stores won't even be stocking their phones, you have to grey import

        • +3

Sony exited Australian market for phones.

    • Only in Aus, they're still 10% of the Japan market so will doubtlessly keep going there for a while.

  • Does this work with Telstra 5G network?

Probably not, none of the other newer Xperias that weren't sold here officially post-Sony's pullout work with VoLTE or 5G as far as I'm aware, besides a few unverified claims on whirlpool/reddit by those who have probably done some firmware dodgies.

  • Sony is still doing Mobile?

    • Does car audio count :-D

and making a profit, they're just not selling in unprofitable countries, like Australia

the new Sony Experia I iii is to my mind the best non foldable mobile phone out there right now, just a little pricey.

The 10 iii is the base model, the 5 iii is the smaller model but with decent specs, the 1 iii is the top range model.

Note this probably won't work with 5G or VoLTE with Aus carriers (as usual for grey market models that aren't sold locally at all/whitelisted by carriers).

    • Not that I would count on it but the website in the deal does say it works on Optus and Telstra 5G

      • +1

It supports their frequencies which is what I think the table is implying, and they doubtlessly could work and might in the future, but for now Telstra/Optus/Vodafone essentially only have a whitelist of approved devices they allow 5G/VoLTE to work on, and none of the greymarket Xperias that were never officially sold here by Sony after their pullout have worked for anything other than 3G voice + 4G data, (besides some unverified whirlpool/reddit claims in firmware mod discussions).

  • I see the Xperia 1 iii available for Preorder but with no price. How can I preorder without a price?

I understand that there is no official USA preorders for a day or two - so I can understand how you don't have a price yet. So my question is, what exactly does preordering do?

EDIT: I see that it 'reserves' the product now with your payment method then get prompted to buy when it becomes available.
