Car Spotting Thread

Hi everyone,

New member here and after reading through some of the forums I have come up with an idea to create a thread dedicated to cool car finds (Car Spotting) around Australia. Not sure how this is going to go down/if anyone here is interested in this idea, but basically if you see any sports cars/supercars and can get a picture of it, you can upload it here for everyone to see etc. I would be happy to post some of my spots so far but I’m curious to see the interest around this as I think it has the possibility to become a popular thread!

This is already a thing on multiple FB groups.

    • +2

I actually don’t have Facebook but I see what you mean, however I’m sure ozbargain will allow for even more car spots!

  • +3

    I'm in

  • +4

What's your definition of a 'cool' car? Like Mr Bean's three-wheeler car or a 2004 BMW Lemon?

    • Haha, basically I was thinking supercars/sports cars of the modern era, e.g Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Mclaren etc, as well as luxury cars such as Bentley, Aston martins. I also wouldn’t mind classic sports cars ethier. Additionally, if a car is very new and has a lot of hype towards it like the new Defender when it came out or the new Supra, those could be posted as well :)

      • +7

        So no Camry's?

        • +2

Spotting fully sick Camrys might get attention and turn into a popular thread here.

          And Powered by eneloops.

        • +4

          OP's on the wrong site if it's Camry's aren't counted! 🤣

        • yeah I saw a camry with 4 exhausts the other day. 2 were vanity ones

      • +1

        Aaahh you mean investment opportunities!

      • If I see any of those cars, I just keep my car as far away from them as possible and just generally avoid them. I'd rather own a i30 N over anything Ferrari wants to stick their horse on, but that's just my taste.

But I also wouldn't be taking photos of someone else's car to post online, feels creepy.

        • “But I also wouldn't be taking photos of someone else's car to post online, feels creepy”
I knew this was going to be mentioned - understandable however you can blur out the number plate if you want

      • Just go to a wedding in western Sydney, if that's what turns you on

  • +6

    Wrong crowd..

    • It will be an inspirational thread then!

  • +4

    Where’s the bargain? 😆

  • There are tonnes of these things around here, see them daily.

    • +1

OP should try Instagram. Might get more followers.

Drove past a car club convoy this morning. An eclectic mix of historic cars. Included a 60 series LandCruiser, a mk2 Jaguar, an 80s Silverado an Escort mk2, a 70s corona wagon and some yank tanks. About a dozen of them. No too exotic but plenty of cool.

Edit: not the ideal format for a photo thread. It’s not really an image based forum.

  • if youre not in a corolla or camry, you're probably not looking on ozbargain tbh

    • It’s not about what cars people on here drive, it’s what cool cars you’re able to see while out and about I suppose

  • So people just….post cars they've seen? That's it?

    • Yeah, but nice cars, expensive cars…

  • +5

Come on, give the kid a break…

    It’s ok, I’ll start. I’m always out taking photos of nice cars and bikes when I see them… post up a few faves;
On my “to own” bucket list
Already crossed off my “to own” bucket list”
Rarest car I’ve ever seen… only 3 ever sold in Australia
Favourite EV (Removed link, trolling - mods)

    • +5

Damn it, now I want to know what the favourite EV was.

    • +1

      Appreciate the input :)

      • I would be happy to post some of my spots so far

Where are yours? Still not seeing them… :)

    • What aussie millionaire drive

  • +3

This type of forum doesn't suit picture threads. Too many links to click.

    • I agree, I will be testing the file and upload method soon. To be honest the links don’t bother me, but what is annoying is that you can’t sort from newest first?

  • +1

I saw a Lotus Elise today.

    • That's fair. Series 2 and 3 are powered by Toyota.

      • The early series of these had the same engine in them as the first of the Land Rover Freelanders. K series Rover engine. It was also used in the last of the Pommy made MG roadsters as well.

    • Very cool, I remember whenever I saw Lotus’ years ago, they would stand out and everyone wouldn’t know what they were haha

  • +1

Using Ozb platform for car spotting is a terrible idea.
Can't easily upload a photo and scroll through as a feed.
    10 years too behind mate

  • +2

you could google image search for "cool cars"?
    or "cool cars forum"

    • Indeed, but it’s very hard to find especially without fb. There are some on Instagram, but they only post “perfect” pictures taken on iPhones 12s lol

  • This be ozbargain - there would be more interest in a camry/corolla spotting thread. :p

    • I thought we were all saving for a Lambo my bad

  • +1

Isn’t the purpose of this site to save money?

    • I guess not, judging by some of the other forum topics

  • +6

I saw a Camry the other day that DIDN'T have a box of tissues in the back window

Or a toy dog with a nodding head. Haven't seen one of those for ages.

    • Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Personkind really needs to get over its infatuation with the motor car. I think that people of the future will rate the car high on the WTF Were They Thinking scale. They drove a tonne of metal and plastic to pick up the milk? They used to drive for pleasure???? They raced those things? Some appeared to worship them? They put up with all that noise and smell….what, you're saying that some of them loved the noise?? People bought them based on what they looked like?? Pull the other one!

    • I have to agree, but luckily we aren’t in the future yet!

    • +2

      Yeh but cars are cool

    • +1

And? We look back at people who rode horses all the time and think, you had to feed your mode of transport? What does this have to do with anything about now ?

Maybe you need to get over your infactuation with milk. Have you thought about how weird it is that you drink the breast milk of another species? Or that you eat it as well? maybe people in the future will look back at Scorpex and think wow so you ate the flesh of an animal that was living and enjoyed it? How could you do that?

      • I'm pleased to see that you understand my diet so well. And that you get my point so completely, in fact.

I saw one a few minutes ago.

Just saw another one. Do trucks count?

    • +4

Come on, JV, you know trucks cant count. They are inanimate objects.

(But yes, trucks should be included)

  • Does anyone have a photo of the appreciating asset? I bet even the photo will appreciate in price!

  • You're on the wrong forum. Check google images instead.

Most of us are only interested in budget economical cars at a significant discount to retail.

    • Not for everyone I can see

  • im a mega car enthusiast.. but no… that belongs on other forums.. like i dont know..maybe a a car forum.

  • Ok so seeing as there are over 20 people following this thread, it looks like I will be the first to post a spot! Here is a Porsche 911 gt3rs I saw last week at Chapel St, Vic!

  • Been seeing a lot of 4C lately as their value has dropped to about 60k, Kinda funny you can get what looks like a supercar for less then a budget luxury car (merc c200). To bad too many seem to be white, horrid fleet car colour.

    • Would love to see them do an updated 4c in the future (and I agree that white is not for supercars)

Spotted a Porsche 944 today outside the registry office. Looked like it had had a hard life in club racing. By the puddle of green liquids behind it I’d be surprised if it was roadworthy.

Also a mk2 Cortina in pristine condition. White with the green gt stripe.

Spotted two C8 RS6's today in Melbourne one on the Monash fwy and one on Elgar Road. If only I had a spare 300k..

  • Spotted a Hong Kong bus in Sydney few months ago, I thought I was hallucinating. Turns out it was this

  • Saw the Aston martin vantage (newest one) for the first time today and it looks strange with the horizontal grill, although the rear of the car is nice

  • +1

Best collection I've seen, they also have a YouTube channel if that's more your thing. But I agree with most comments, OzB doesn't really work for threads like this

    • I agree these guys have insane cars!

  • Anyone else see anything worth noting from this weekend?

  • +1

Cars spotted in the same car park -

    McLaren
    McLaren Rear
    Lotus
    Audi
    Porsche

    (In coolness order)

    • Nice! Thanks for sharing!!

  • I saw a Camira tonight. Kudos to the person who drives it and probably spent 1000 times its value in keeping it on the road.

    • That must be the unicorn. The one that hasn’t broken down in all those years.
