Automatic Dispenser for Liquid Hand Sanitiser

I’m looking for an automatic dispenser to put on the table just inside our front door for anyone to use as they enter the house. I’ve got litres of liquid hand sanitiser (ethanol) from our local distillery.

Has anyone purchased something that’s up to the task but not ridiculously expensive?

Thanks for the advice!

Kmart has one https://www.kmart.com.au/product/automatic-soap-dispenser/36… presuming you can use a soap dispenser for sanitiser. I often notice these auto dispensers have a big pile of goop under them where I guess people don’t have their hands in place at the right time, which might be worth considering,

    • Yeah - probably just put it right on the edge of the table so any spills go on the floor. The alcohol will just evaporate.

I’ve been trying to work out if these are fine with liquid or if they need the higher viscosity of the soap or gel.

Ah, yeah, I'm not sure about viscosity. I guess for $15 you could try it and if it doesn't work out you've just got yourself a fancy soap dispenser for the bathroom or kitchen. Actually something like this would be good in the kitchen, I'm always trying to get soap if I've been handling eggs or meat or similar without touching the push down bit. I'd probably also consider putting a tray under it to protect your table, depending what your table is made of and if it matters to you.

Be careful what type of floors you have though. I've seen the finish of a few different types of floors get absolutely wrecked by liquid sanitiser.

  • Just put it in a spray bottle and use it as a surface cleaner instead. Gel hand sanitiser is cheap now anyway.

    • Can you suggest an automatic dispenser?

      • Does it need to be automatic? Pump operated should be fine as you will literally be rubbing sanitiser over your hands after touching the pump. For liquid, the dispenser will have to generate a spray like those in some shopping centres. I don't have any suggestions. For gel, the $15 Kmart one should do and if it doesn't work, you should be able to easily get a refund being Kmart.

Saw a guy at Bunnings pump the bottle with his elbow, COVID safe dispensing 🤣

          • @bloom: Yeah I've never understood that…

As ascorbic said - you're literally going to be sanitising your hands straight after touching the bottle.

When was the last time you sanitised your elbow?

I bought the Dettol automatic hand wash for the kitchen and it was ok initially but then started leaking from the dispenser even when it wasn't activated. After a while, it seemed like I was cleaning up more hand wash liquid from the bench top than was being dispensed into hands so it got binned.

    • Good to know that one’s not an option

    • They often do that if there is soap build up near the sensor - the sensor is pretty close to where the soap comes out so this easily happens. Ours was like that (dispensing soap when not activated) and all I needed to do was give the sensor a clean.

      • The dettol sensor was actually located on the bottom half of the stand so not near where the soap is dispensed from. We tried cleaning the sensor window thingy however it didn't make a difference - the soap kept dripping & coagulating on the bench top.

I recall seeing this dispenser discounted a couple of months after purchase so maybe the design just wasn't all that.

  • I have not bought one, but I saw these the other day and thought they looked fun as automatic dispensers for liquid sanitiser:

  • Woolies don't seem to refill theirs, maybe ask them for one
