Osprey Day Pack or Smaller Hiking Pack

Looking for a pack for a young teen ager. Would prefer Osprey but open to other options on quality packs.

  • Depends what they're taking. If I go with a kid I usually carry everything for the two of us (tent, cook gear, food, etc) and they just carry their own mat, sleeping bag and clothes (and water) which works ok in a cheaper backpack. That makes it fairer with speeds too - when they get older I'll start loading them up more.

  • probably best to ask on facebook groups like gear freak australia and any of the hiking groups. Personally i have an Osprey talon 44 which i use for both single day and multi day hikes. For smaller ones I use my Salomon running vest.

  • I think osprey 30 is the sweet spot but may be too big for young teen

    • I was thinking about 30 also. Will have to keep my eye out.

  • is this for hiking? school? combo?

Does the kid have a bigger pack for hikes?

IMO 30L is the sweet spot for day packs. Just make sure its wide enough to fit a ring binder/folder..
