Looking for a Reliable Gas Torch

I'm on a quest to find a decent gas torch that won't burn down my house. I want to use it mainly for food finishing and lighting up my fireplace so auto-ignition is a must. I've tried Campmaster (Kmart) and Gasmate (Bunnings), both crap! The former started leaking and almost caused a fire, the latter, the little nob stopped working luckily when the fire was off.

The next obvious choice is to try one those Tradeflame that Bunnings sells but there are some bad reviews on the website. Does anyone know of any other brand the sells more heavy-duty flame torches? Bernzomatic?

  • Benzomatic certainly do make them as do Cigweld but no experience with either.

  • I got bernzomatic. Looks like maybe ts8000. But mine is about 15 years old. Never an issue. Can pull it out after years without use and goes straight away. I use it for plumbing. Can't imagine this is appropriate for cooking - it's a strong flame.

  • I use one the same as this in the kitchen and garage.

Had it for many years and works fine.

  • I'm very pleased with the Hot Devil branded torches you can get for Autobarn; you can get cheap similar ones on eBay that are rubbish so avoid those. I can consistently light my fire without any firelighters and the canisters last for ages.

They take the standard butane canisters you can get in a 12-pack from Kmart/BigW/wherever for super cheap.

  • Bernzomatic torches are great, Tradeflame torches are similar but have quality control issues

  • but all the other links above are OK?
