Any Tips for Getting a Bargain Price on a Garmin Smart Watch

I am getting ready to buy a particular Garmin smart watch, The Garmin Descent Mk 2s.

These are based on the Garmin Fenix, but include a decent dive computer. I think it is bl@@dy expensive, but it does everything I need for on water, travel, fitness etc in the one package so I will pay - as little as possible.

I can get it for around $100 off from a couple of on line dive shops but before I go for it I thought that there may be some here who can advise on how I can do better.

Any advice, ideas, strategies to consider?

  • Amazon, or if it's not available, I'll try Amazon.ca as Canada's exchange is often on par with ours, just with the advantage of being next door to the US.
Duty fees will shave off some of those savings however.

Closer together home, a Google search will yield some gems if you click on the Shopping button. In this instance, the Surf Doctor has it for $1399 +free postage.

And of course, if you're not in a hurry, setting up an alert in OzBargain will email you if a deal comes up.

    • Yes, found a couple at this price.
Haven’t seen a good price on Amazon so far, but looking….

  • +1

Hey SaltyPete, on new releases best bet I've found is when Rebel has a 20% site-wide stacked with discounted gift cards (5%-10% off), though the Descent is a bit niche, they probably wouldn't have (but may be able to order in?). The other option is some Health insurers offer 20%-25% off RRP (AIA, Bupa, perhaps others). There's also the ebay deals which frequently have great Garmin deals.

    • Yes I keep seeing good discounts on Rebel and JB but they never show the Descent range at all. I guess it’s one of those niche products that won’t sell in volume.

  • Set up alerts here on OzBargain. Whenever Garmin is about to release a new model their high end watches are often 50% off, and mid-range watches are 30% off.

Edit: a lot of company's and insurance places will have a way to get a 20% off discount (e.g. BUPA).

    • The Mk1 is actually on an excellent discount ATM, but I prefer to get the better features on the later model.
Thank you for the heads up on health insurance. Mine don’t do this, but have some other things that I hadn’t thought to look at.

  • I think Garmin rarely discount their specialty models that are based off Fenix 6 models etc. I have a Tactix which is just a Fenix 6 with a couple of extra features and I had to pay $1000+ even though the 6 sapphire was half price at JB.

Best chance is discounted gift cards IMO.

    • Yess, Garmin seem to know their market very well and charge premium prices. But I guess if I want the features I need to pay.
Can’t even do the GST cash back ATM as we can’t travel….

  • I have a discount which brings it down to ~$1.1k PM me if you are keen.
