  • Does Lego still sell a set that's just rectangular blocks? Long ago I bought set 3033, with just rectangular bricks, and I'd like more. I don't need any more of wheels/faces/windows/miscellaneous blocks, I've already got enough of those from other sets.

    • Yeah agreed this is what I need also

      • I'm very tempted to try non-Lego blocks, like these much cheaper "compatible with most branded blocks" ones from Target: https://www.target.com.au/p/1-piece-building-block-set/59942…

        • I bought the Target blocks, and returned them with a complaint through the manager.

Of the 1013 blocks I received, there seemed to be an abnormally large number of tiny blocks, and hardly any large blocks. So I counted them.

There were 540 of the 1x1 blocks! And 264 of the 1x2 blocks, with quantities reducing as the blocks got larger. Of the largest 2x4 blocks, there were just 44.

I don't think this was an accident, the way the blocks were packed makes me suspect there was a deliberate effort to conceal the block count. The box contained three equal smaller boxes, each of which was about half-filled by a plastic bag containing mixed sizes of Lego pieces. Once removed from the plastic bags, all of the blocks almost fit into one of the three boxes, so the excessive packaging was designed to make you think you were getting more than you actually were.

The outside of the box has a diagram showing one of each of the six sizes of block in the set, with a line of text saying "1:1 ratio", which indicates there should be equal numbers of each type of block. The store manager tried to claim this was an indication of the size of the blocks, so I pulled out one of the blocks and demonstrated that the drawing wasn't an indication of the size (it was about 80% of full-size). I also pointed out that if it was an indication of size then it should say "1:1 scale", not "1:1 ratio".

The manager was helpful, and took my email address and promised to follow up. I will report back if I receive a follow-up.
