ALDI Data Only Sim Card in Laptop

Hi guys,

(Newbie here.)

I have a new Dell laptop that I will be using for work as well as (hopefully) accessing the internet at my farm, where I don't have a landline, but good Telstra signal.

I've never tried to set up a SIM in a laptop before and just need a bit of clarification about Aldi SIM cards please.
This will no doubt be a dumb question, but here goes……

I have done a little research and from what I can gather, I need to:

  1. Buy a starter kit SIM.

then

  1. Buy a data plan to apply to that SIM

Yeah?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

  • Just double checking that your Dell laptop definitely can accommodate a SIM card?

If yes, then those two steps are all you need to do.

      Thanks kerfuffle.

      Yes, it can.

  • Hi Greg,

Yes, if your laptop has a cellular modem / WWAN built in, it should work. If not, you will need a 4G USB modem dongle or a MIFI dongle.

You should also run a speedtest, in your usual usage location and on the highest/clearest part of the property you and see if there's much difference. While you've already mentioned you have a strong telstra signal, it's hard to tell what the quality of the service is.

If it's there is a major difference you might instead benefit from putting the SIM in a 4G hotspot (that you leave in a high spot), or use an external antenna for the laptop if it supports it (most don't).

I have family in a regional area and while SIM in laptop worked barely, they found moving the SIM to a 4G hotspot that sat higher up led to a drastically improved service
