Robot Vacuum Recommendations

Hi All- looking for recommendations for a robot vacuum in the starter/ mid range area.

We have a double storey house, but happy for the unit to mainly be on one level as most usage would be on that level. I have seen a lot of comments about different technologies for sensors and the like, and looking for recommendations on what I would need.

I have a combination of tiled floors and carpet bedrooms. Carpet is not thick and there is not much of a step up which I know can sometimes be an issue. Mainly need vacuum function, but interested to know if the mop functions are any good.

Any recommendations on products and things that I should/ shouldn’t look out for? Would love to keep cost below the $350 mark, but not sure what I am going to get for that amount- thanks.

Stick with a brand that has a good range from basic to advanced. Lidar seems to be the way to go.

i just purchased an Ecovacs T9+ (likely out of your price range) and absolutely love it. The other brand to look at is the Roborock series which are often on sale.

Suction on tiles is not really a big thing, however on carpet it is. most are fairly similar in power however the technology is in obstacle avoidance which makes it a more effective machine. If you can wait until black Friday sales you may be able to get a mid tier machine at a basic unit price…

    • I agree. I have purchased a T9+ last month and its great. I set a timer to start vacuuming the house at 5am and it is done by the time I wake up. It is a tad expensive but you are better off getting a good rob vac rather than cheap out on it. It has a good mopping function that vibrates for a "deeper" clean. Its one of the few items that I didnt know I needed one until I got one.

      • Thanks for the advice. Totally understand about spending to get something decent, and absolutely considering it. Was just curious to see what the lower price rangers were like.
Considering what professional house cleaning would cost on a weekly/ fortnightly basis it is probably way cheeper anyway.

      • Ahh damn, this is the comment that has swayed me to buy one.

Would say spend a bit extra and try to grab an Roborock S5 Max Robot when it hits special at $500-550 but with a xiaomi dreame v9 and a roborock s50 that both died <18 months in, I'm not sure if I can really suggest roborock/xiaomi vacs anymore.

Support from gearbite in both instances was lacking at best.

    • Thanks for that.

How do the units go across multiple levels? Do you just plug it in at the other level of a house and it will map that area as well?

Also- mopping functions. Does it automatically switch, or do you have to put it on a seperate cycle to mop?

      • S5 does switch.

Yes you just take it downstairs and it automaps (based on my old one)

        • Thanks for that.

    • Is S5 Max superior than S6 Pure? Which one is better value for money?
