Shame on you Scoopon - Affordable Lawns

I purchased 2 coupons for Affordable Lawns. I emailed the company 3 weeks before the coupon expired and phoned multiple times with no reply. Despite providing you with the proof you asked for with the copy of the email clearly dated prior to the expiry date you still deny me a refund. You have ignored my requests for this company,s ABN or address. If you bothered to call affordable lawns you would see they have an answering machine on constantly so you can never get to talk to anyone. Much like Scoopon!

You shouldn't make your customers pay for your mistake in not checking that these companies, that you are selling coupons for are reputable and actually exist.

After having to wait for weeks for Scoopon to even reply and providing the proof you asked for SHAME ON YOU SCOOPON for denying me a refund when I did everything right.

  • apparently there is a new govt dept that looks after group buying sites. try them.
    otherwise ACCC or DFT

  • Thank you Mick123 I will see if I can find them and if so post the details here. Scoopon have ignored my requests for the Scoopon ABN which I thought should have been shown on their coupon, but the office of fair trading may be able to help me.

QLD Rentals phone number is reversed to a residential address in Nerang, QLD. http://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0755020232/

  • Thanks so much Neil for all the info. In my email to Scoopon I pointed out that the number supplied on the coupon was Qld Rentals and not a direct number for affordable lawns. If you ring Qld rentals there is a MSG to call a mobile if you have a coupon but no matter what time you call no one answers. We left messages with Qld rental and affordable lawns. At one time early Jan there was a message that they were on holidays till 27 Jan but would extend the validity from 21 jan to march. When they still failed to contact us back after 27 jan I tried to contact Scoopon. They gave no reason why they would not refund especially as I have emails and phone records, just that the coupon is now out of date and they have marked the file as closed.

NEVER, ever, leave it until after the official expiry date to claim a refund. Scoopon is not at fault here. If you'd asked for the refund before the expiry date you would not be having the problem.

I can assure you I am not siding with Scoopon here, simply giving you the facts. There's too much of this sort of stuff happens with shonky businesses and there are warnings out there to never accept extended expiry dates.

  • Unfortunately I believed that Scoopon was a reputable company and knowing that I had proof that I had contacted the company well prior to the end of the coupon date expected that if Scoopon/service provider could not prove that the service provider did contact me or supply the service that I would be due a refund.
I am curious as to why Scoopon asked me to provide proof of contact prior to expiry and then ignored the facts when presented. They still have ignored my requests to get information about this company however a reader here has kindly supplied ABN info for me.

Tasha, did you purchase the coupons by credit card? Hope so, because if you did then you can simply forget chasing Scoopon and escalate it by requesting a "chargeback" from your bank. Your bank refunds the coupon purchase immediately while investigating the transaction. You provide evidence of products/services not rendered or of merchantable quality and failure by Scoopon to respond.

Chargeback is cool for recalcitrant retailers like Poop-on because they get lumbered with the chargeback fee! :p

    • Yes, especially seeing as you have proof of trying to contact beforehand.

    • how to go when buy through pay pal???

Wow thank you Shump. Excellant information. I have sent one more email today to Scoopon asking for an actual reason why they denied the refund so if again they ignore me the bank will be my next port of call. I phoned my bank and they advised to bring in all the emails to and from and it can be processed. My bank advised about a month to process but that's fine.

There has been such excellant assistance on this web site so thank you one and all. My first experience in buying scoopons has been a very sharp learning curve.

  • Australian Direct Marketing Association is the way to complain about Group Buying.

  • scoopon cop out easily in a deal I have.
the dept of fair trading now tell me that they cannot force a rogue business to resolve issues and I should take it to the tribunal.
wonder what real use the dept is.
other than keep the minister in a job and make the government look good.
they say they can take 30 days to act on a complaint.
but tell me to reply in 3 days else they will close the complaint as 'resolved'!
    cop outs not cops.

  • I registered on Scoopon's help site yesterday, filled in a refund request for a Scoopon that was bad and within 30 minutes had a reply with 3 options to get a refund.
    Credit card
    Scoopon gift card
or cheque being sent out in the mail.

Everything was resolved by 1 person Louise within 45 minutes.

    • +1 I found Scoopons refund process quick and easy.

I guess it depends on who the rogue business is - case by case. YMMV.

  • I've had a very bad recent experience with scoopon: I purchased 3 vouchers for car washing services in Adelauide (Flufferz Carwash Cafe) and gave these out as Christmas gifts last year. I go to redeem my own voucher a few weeks ago, only to be told by the Carwash company, that they are not taking vouchers anymore because Scoopon was not providing them with their commission from the deal. The company explained that I would be able to get a full refund by contacting Scoopon. I did just that, and had been communicating with a guy called Jeremy from Scoopon who said that he has processed my refund of $87 for the cancelled vouchers, and to expect my refund back onto my credit card account in the next 7-10 business days.

I checked my account after this time and disappointingly, I see that Scoopon have short changed me, giving me a refund of only $11 as opposed to the $87 I had been promised. I have tried contacting Scoopon to let them know this, multiple times over the past week to ten days - they keep ignoring me and closing the case each time I post a message to them. I have really had it with Scoopon; not only have I been left with the embarrassment of having to take back the vouchers from my friends and family… explaining that 'sorry they have been cancelled on me'…. but I am left with no vouchers and received only an $11 refund, falling short of the actual amount that is owed to me.

I have been lied to by Scoopon and I am disgusted that such an issue would result in complications and frustration on my behalf, in seeking the refund that I am entitled to.
I plan to take the matter further if Scoopon do not provide me with the refund I am owed.
