Upcoming Tim Shafer Game - US $15 Pledge (Expected Completion/Delivery October 2012)

100

First time poster here. If you're a fan of Tim Shafer's games (Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Psychonauts etc), you'll probably pick up this game when it comes out anyway. Basically make a commitment for $15, and when the game becomes available you'll get it.

At this point the game is going to be available for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android, and in n addition to Steam codes, they will also be offering DRM free versions.

Cut off time for pledges is March 13, 8:00pm EDT.

Totally a Tim Shafer fan, (Day of the Tentacle is probably my favourite game, ever) and I definitely am supporting this Kickstarter initiative, but it's hard to classify this as a bargain really.

Perhaps this would be better posted in the forum?

    • I'm +ing on the basis the released game is likely to be more than $15.

As much as I think this is a great project, it isn't a bargain.

Yeah, given you're not actually buying anything at this stage, I think this belongs in the forums and not as a 'bargain'.

over hyped game now. i expect it wont be any good because of it.

    • Because things that get a lot of praise and anticipation from the general public usually tends to be bad, right?

      • Totally, like Sword & Sworcery…

        • Actually, I agree with you there, whether it was sarcasm or not.

        • I enjoyed Sword and Sworcery. until i had to be at a certain point at a certain time. and because i couldn't be bothered changing my clock for a game. I stopped there..

  • My bad if this is more forum material. I "could" argue this is similar to a pre-order, but if there is a requirement for the product to be immediately available as at the time of posting, negative away folks!

  • Guy's $15 is a bargain for a pre order on what will almost certainly be a great game. Beta access, access to a private forum, access to the doco and of course the final game on release for $15??? Find me another pre order for a game developed by some people that have made AAA games for just $15 :)

    • "what will almost certainly be a great game" does not equate to "you are buying a great game". I don't disagree that it's good value and I certainly plan to put my $15 in, but at the end of the day I'm not sure that's what OzBargain is for. Unless you know what you're getting at the end of it, you don't actually know if it's a bargain.

And btw, I'm aware of preordering other games as being bargains, but that's when you actually know what the game is. For this we know nothing other than the style of the game (point and click adventure) and who the developer is.

      • I know I'm going to be getting a great adventure game :)
If it turns out only average then it's still a cheap price for a pre order for any game, along with the extras. Worst case is I am supporting a great team of developers, which will only make them develop more games :D
Think of it as a bargain investment into the gaming industry.

And as some other people have been saying in other bargains, it's better than a free $1 iphone game that you didn't want in the first place ;)

Oh and you can look at it another way too. Buying this will surely bring kickstarter into the limelight a bit more, and that can only mean more high profile devs might give it a go, giving us the option of pre ordering even more cheap games and bypassing the greedy publishers! Not all bargains are an actual product, sometimes all you need to do is support an idea that will help us get more bargains in the future.

        • Yeah, but once again, donations aren't bargains, and don't belong on the OzBargain front page (forums is fine).

I'm not disagreeing that it's a good idea to participate in this, I'm just following what the purpose of OzBargain is, and going by its rules/guidelines.

  • 1.84 mil already. awesome!
