Where to Complain about Pearson PTE

Even though I am an Australian citizen, being born/studied overseas means I need to submit proof of english competency before I can study here. Validity of english test which I gave during PR Visa has long expired. Recently I gave PTE academic exams in Pearson professional centre in bridge street, NSW. Unfortunately, I had microphone failure during my speaking section, and even though I tried to bring it to the notice of the supervisor (by raising hand), no one attended to me.

At the end, I raised complaint about this incident to Pearson VEU and Pearson has been sitting on this complaint for weeks now with no response. I cannot book new exam until this complaint has been resolved. but I am not getting firm date by which this complaint will be resolved. I need to submit the english results by month end, otherwise I will miss-out on this year's batch.

Did any one else face similar issue? and how did you resolve it? Can I complain about this to NSW fair trading?

  • Just fyi, I am quite certain you can still book another test and appear for it..
    The status of your complaint doesn’t interfere with that.

    I understand you won’t wanna pay for something that you should be rightfully compensated for but I doubt you can do much here because at the beginning of every test, they do give everyone an opportunity to test the equipment infront of them.
    So I reckon they’ll just use that as an excuse to dismiss your concerns..
    After that, I doubt you can do much anyways..

      OK, PTE website says you cannot request reevaluation etc once you rebook the test. Reg. the microphone, it worked fine at the beginning and then stopped working all of sudden. Whilst I can understand that technical glitch can happen, my only complain is that someone should have attended me. They literally pay a guy to sit there and monitor students. I guess he was sleeping during my test.

    I understand that but you have already filed a complaint with them, if you a book test now it wouldn’t affect the complaint that you have already registered

    Having said that, I didn’t realise until you just specified, that your mic glitched out right in the middle of your test and not since the beginning of it.
    I understand your pain mate, I would livid if I was you

    You should definitely contact NCAT if you Pearsons don’t make things right with you..
    Having said that, hard for you to prove anything here
    Considering it would be merely your word against theirs.

    so you just sat there for an hour? why didnt you stand up and walk over?

    • It was probably an online test

    • PTE rule says can't get up from seat once test starts.

  • I think you can take an IELTS academic test.

  • Update: Pearson gave a free test voucher to book another test.

  • These issues are getting very common with Pearson Test Centers. My brother faced issues with the software itself. It suddenly stopped and moved to next question during speaking tasks. He is going to complain as well.

    • I experienced a similar issue last month during the exam and logged a complain. But their decision says there was no technical issue. It is not true. Do you know where should I complain about this. I contacted customer service and they said me to pay another 50USD to investigate about this. But this was not my error. It was their technical error. Please advice me, If you know anything regarding this kind of issue.
