Please Recommend a Good Quality Kettle

Purchased a Xiaomi Smart Kettle late last year and it stopped working today. Am after a replacement - any recommendations? Cheers.

Just get a $9 kettle from Kmart. When it breaks in a few years trash it. Done. We use them in all our AirBNBs and haven't had a single one fail.

      5yo still going strong.

    • Yep. It does the job or boiling water and does it well.

    • I bought a $80 Breville kettle which died within a year. So, I bought a $9 Kmart to replace it thinking I'll have to trash it in a year. Its been going for 6 years now.

  • I was going to recommend the xiaomi one
    They're pretty cheap. I think sub $40 or $50

I got a bialetti coffee plunger which you can heat directly on the stove top , so technically it can do the job of the plunger/kettle at the same time.

got it from myer for $45

  • I’ve got the breville multi temp kettle. Good for making teas at the right temp and also has a keep warm function.

    • Was going to say the kmart glass variable temp one is good too. But doesn't look to be listed online anymore.

    • Have this too and it looks nice and is decent but… it beeps loudly, three times after finishing boiling, it’s kind of annoying and… I think the buttons will die before the rest of the kettle, the main boil button sometimes has to be pressed numerous times before it will start. We have the same on our breville toaster and the buttons on one side don’t work well after a few years.

      • Yeah ours has recently started going funky with the buttons - hit boil, it registers multiple different button presses. Have had it for quite a few years but, and it was from an outlet store.

    • Have this but the sensor to pop the lid is faulty, pops the lid before the boiling has finished

      • Sorry for the thread necro spackbace, but we're in the market for a new kettle now and I've been searching the forums for relevant posts and came back across this one.

I'm replying to your comment as our lid started popping early a while back, and the plastic on the lid has now degraded to the point that it's just broken apart (and hence we're on the market for a kettle). Perhaps the popping was an early sign that the plastic is going?

        • Maybe but interesting to see its a common thing

  • Ive had a breville for roughly 10 years now still works great.

    $7 kmart kettle

    • I had the $7 Kmart kettle for 5 years, just died last week. I would average about 3 or daily uses

    Smart Kettle

Get a “dumb” one, they breakdown less easily, by not trying to be smart.

    • Yep agree. Same for other similarly "simple" appliances like toasters and rice cookers.

  • What is your budget?

I purchased this - was 30% off and had a Myer voucher from Christmas, so was out of pocket $20. Have used it for 6 months so far and going strong. Use the variable temps regularly.
