Extremely Slow Transfer Speed M1 Air?!

Hi guys,

I just tried to transfer between SSD to HDD on my new Mac air.

I have a USB-C multiport adapter attached to the Mac and when I tried transfer 13 GB of files it says ETA 4 hours…Is there something wrong with the adapter?!

I unplugged it and plugged the SSD and HDD into my old Mac and it's super fast. What am I doing it wrong? The adapter on my new Mac has two USB 3.0 connectors.

  • The M1 Air has two USB ports. Do you get slow transfers between the drives if you plug them directly into the Mac without the multiport adaptor?

You say transfer speed is super fast when plugged into your old Mac - is this through the multiport adaptor, or directly plugged in?

    • Hey thanks for replying, no not directly into the thunderbolts port but via the multi port adapter. on my old Mac I didn’t plug the two external drives directly into the USB port.

      • If you can test the transfer speeds when plugging the drives directly into the M1 Mac, it would give you an idea as to whether the issue is with the multiport adaptor.

        • Ok thanks I will need to buy an adapter for that as none of my hard drives have a thunderbolt plug
