Razer 15 Advanced Vs Razer 17 Vs Zephyrus 15

I am having a hard time deciding between these 3 laptops. I am relatively newbie to this gaming laptop scene so I ask for help.

  1. Razer Blade Pro 17 17.3in 360Hz i7-10875H RTX3070 16GB 512GB Gaming Laptop -$ 3099

  2. Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model 15.6" FHD 360Hz i7-10875H RTX3080 Laptop 32gb ram- $3699

  3. Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, AMD R9-5900HS, Win10-H, 15.6" QHD 165Hz, 16GB (2 x 8GB), 1T PCIE, RTX 3070-8GB GDDR6-$3099

I normally use laptop for some cad drawings and playing very lite games. Lenovo legion 5 pro and 7 are good options but not available for 5-6 weeks. And cost about same according to their website.
My current laptop is 9 years old (i think).

I am open to any other options as well.

  • Out of interest where is the G15 available because I've been struggling to find one?

    • I am not sure if its still available but i saw them on rosman computers.

      • Oh last time I look on there I thought the 3070 was all out.

  • I use a G14 for Autocad LT/Artcam and CNC/Laser cutting software.

  • Looks like you and I have same use case. I will be using this to design and producing nc codes as well..

  • go for Razer Blade
    - propietary and unique build materials (inc green USB ports, smooth/weighted-closing hinge)
    - glass touch trackpad
    - glossy/glass screen display — although you may want the ROG if you're after a matte display

id go the for the 17" — a lot more screen display and after using 17" its hard to go back to 15"
the 17" will feel heavy though

    • I am using gloss display at this time and certainly heavier laptop than 17 razer so that is not an issue.
The downside of razer 17 is 16gb of ram. I am not sure which is better for cad use i710875h or r9 5900hs.
Razer 15 has 32gb of ram and 3080 but is $600 more so not sure if that is worth that money.

  • I’ve had a razor blade advanced 15 in the past. With a 2070 inside. I got rid of it after a year, had to RMA it as well for a screen issue where the laptop keys rub on the display and causes an outline of the keys to appear on the screen in the form of tiny scratches.

FWIW, don’t buy a 3080 in a laptop unless it’s a full size chassis and large (as in 17” not 15” and not thin and light laptops). The 3080 in the 15” blade will probably perform pretty close to the 3070 in the 17” blade. Jarrod’s Tech on YouTube did a review on that phenomenon but the basis is cooling.

I’d stick to a 3070 and save some coin with the ASUS G15. You might even want to consider 3060Ti as well but it really depends what games you play.

    • Thanks for great inputs. Really appreciate it.
The laptops main purpose is cad drawings with occasional gaming. Not very high demanding game either. I will look into 3060Ti. The 16gb(8×8) in Asus G15 is a worry.
I wonder what kind of performance will I get if I upgrade ram(8×16) in cad?

      • Make sure the RAM is compatible. A 8GB and 16GB combo might actually be worse if it can’t run properly together.

        • Thanks. Will do.
Laptop is expected to arrive end of august. Looking into some other options now…

  • The extra ram will help with CAD. My g14 came with 32gb pre installed and AutoCAD runs so smooth and will utilize the GPU for processing power.
