Churning Cards - How Long Until Closed Card is "Gone"

Hi to all credit card churners. I'm looking to get the ANZ black for the QFF point bonus, will close out my amex before hand. How long do I have to wait for the amex to be visible as "closed"? Thanks in advance.

Not sure on credit report, could be months. If you get pushback just mention it's closed and show the letter from Amex which comes a week or so after closing the account.

Edit: Amex work on 18-month cycles so you should be eligible Jan 2023 for the next round of bonus point signups.

    • Awesome thanks for that, will cancel the amex tonight and get the ball rolling.

  • I have closed cards and mortgage accounts shows on Equifax for well over 2 years now. But it doesn't add the credit limit to the total credit limit.

  • My past experience was it takes a month for it to update in your credit report as closed.
Is there a reason you want to wait?
Have they rejected you before or are you worried about your credit limit?

    • Purely because I have no experience with what they will look for. Haven't been rejected from a card before.

      • Generally just apply and if they reject you then i start cutting cards.
But if you keep it to a max of 2 credit cards open at any one time you should be fine (as long as their credit limit is fairly low)

  • Sign up to credit savvy or similar and wait until it shows as cancelled. Second option is wait until you get a letter confirming closure of the card. I have found when applying for a card if you don’t list a card that’s open they will query it. In my experience they generally ask for a copy of the letter (submitted electronically in the same process as you submit payslips) if you say it’s closed but it’s not closed on your credit report. In my experience this can take several months.

I’ve just hit 1.6M Qantas points but wonders when we will ever be able to bloody use them!

  • I have issues with citibank cards staying open on credit reports
