Proof of Ownership - Office 2019 H & S

Hi All

has anyone had any success in proving ownership of office 2019 H&S ?

I have the licence key and receipt of the purchase

but to try and get MS to validate it .. its been a hard task

all they seem to want to do is just confirm DOB & details for the outlook account you create

I did redeem the licence key via the web… but unfortunately didn't record the password & other details….

there didn't seem to be a feature where to it was compulsory enter a recovery email…

to be honest…. they seem to make it difficult .. even tho I do have the Proof of purchase

  • How do they know you haven't just bought the key and receipt online and are trying to steal someone else's account? How do they know that receipt matches that code you're trying to claim? It's a basic security measure so you don't hijack someone else's account. And long gone are the days where one key could be used on 50 devices because it does no online verification.

They make it difficult because they assume you know your own DOB and email address. Which isn't a huge assumption to make.

    • i have the psychical details

its a the actual card & official officeworks receipt

You have a card and a receipt. How do they know the two tie together?

It really sucks, and I've thrown in fake info a million times just to get through a signup thing, but unfortunately all you have is evidence of the account details but you're using it to get access to a whole Microsoft account. Look at it from Microsoft's point of view, how do they know it's not a scam to get access to an account because you found the license key and a receipt? Usually people know their own date of birth.

I'd keep trying on the password reset. If you used your own email address for the Microsoft account (for example, my login for outlook is at gmail.com) it should be possible to trigger a reset email.

  • Are you trying to validate an Office license or the Account it's tied to? If the latter then having the key won't help.

    • I have redeemed the licence key via Microsoft (you need to create or attach it to a microsoft account)…. I forgot the password I used to create the outlook.com account

I forgot the password I used to create the outlook.com account

        Oh, in that case goodluck…

If you didn't add a recovery/secondary email and phone number to your profile it is an absolute nightmare to try and recover the password (to be fair Gmail is a similar nightmare).

The recovery process asks for any past working passwords, subject lines of emails you have sent or recieved and then it seems to be allocated to an actual person to eventually review if you matched anything.

[Edit] Did you happen to use that outlook.com account to login to Windows 10?
Or to log in via a proper browser?
That would possibly make finding the password easier

Just go and get a $10 key online to activate another version. Seems like less hassle.

  • Is this a reinstall or a new onto a new machine?

  • Oooof no recovery email? Have fun. Sorry.
