[Resolved] Cashrewards - Groupon Sale Not Attributed to CR

Update (24/08/21): Just want to give a big thanks to TA for helping me resolve this issue. Cashback has been honoured. Great customer service as always!

Another similar issue to what some people have posted about in the past.

Just had over $70 of cashback declined from my Groupon purchases from about 4 months ago - they were marked as pending to be confirmed last month. When I noticed they were still not approved I lodged a ticket and received a prompt reply that "another marketing channel has received commission for [my] sale instead of [CR]".

In a similar way I was expecting a $20 cashback from Uniqlo about a month ago but was told they couldn't find the tracked sale. CR did add this $20 as pending to my account while they investigate what happened (maybe because the amount was lower) but I'm expecting this to be cancelled at some point in the future if the sale is not attributed to CR.

My CR account has a mix of cashbacks that came through instantly with no hassle, and others (like the above) which do not. I always click through and purchase in the same manner so it doesn't seem to be a tracking issue for me .

Now I'm not saying this is CR's fault and TA has been very helpful with individual enquiries in the past. What I wanted to raise, however, is whether stores like Groupon and Uniqlo are acting falsely and don't want to pay CR the commission due for the sales that arise from cashback promotions. I get that it will be at CR's loss if they pay us (the customer) the cashback but did not receive the commission from the store they were doing the promotion on.

If these cashbacks aren't going to be approved, I would suggest CR (and by extension ShopBack) should remove stores like these and refuse to partner with them for promotions.

Mate Cashrewards has gotten quite sketchy in the last year and a half..
I used to be able to get my cash backs from them seamlessly but lately they have been stuffing everything up.
No wonder, Shopback’s been killing them right now.

What are you talking about, Shopback is the one that has all the issues. Whenever there is a cashrewards problem @tightarse always manages to resolve it (if it isn't clearly the person's fault).

        Okay

I just based that on my personal experience. I have used both apps quite frequently and I have never had an issue with ShopBack so far..
I have had 7 different instances where Cashrewards didn’t track my purchases or declined them for whatever reason after a period of time
6 out of those 7 times, they amended it after I reported it to them.

Who’s tightarse’ btw? Sorry, I am still not familiar with all aspects of this website.

Also, I didn’t downvote your comment..

TA is a user here who works for cashrewards and tries to fix people's issues when they have them.

If you have an issue with Shopback you're stuck emailing uncaring support robots who just repeat that you must have had a third party plugin activated or didn't click properly and do nothing to help. Suspiciously less helpful with large cashbacks than small ones.

I didn't neg you either! Hopefully OP issues get sorted

I bought something with cash rewards groupon and noticed that cashback is excluded if you use a coupon code not listed. Groupon has these codes all the time, so no cashback

Most likely you clicked the links on another 3rd party website, e.g. price comparison, deals(OZB unlogged in).

Hi divineiniquity, and thanks for the post. Your two Groupon untracked claims have been rejected by the store as 'attributed to another marketing channel'. As always, I want to be as transparent as I possibly can - here & here are the two screenshots of exactly what Groupon sent us in regards your claims. The 'generic' response given here indicates that CR was not your last click. I wasn't there when you made the purchase, so I don't know if you have a weird AdBlock plugin installed, or maybe even Honey installed but there's unfortunately lots of factors that can cause a sale to go untracked. The other thing to note is that whoever that other channel was, has been attributed the commission for your purchase.

However, I've taken it upon myself to follow up on this with Groupon directly. I've just shot them an email and will gladly update you once they get back to me. As for Uniqlo, likely the same thing has happened, so we'll patiently need to wait while they investigate. Please just know that we're not here to bullshit members - despite the incredible suggestion by some to the contrary, we always do everything we can to get your cashback to you.

I'll be back in touch with an update as soon as I hear back. In the meantime, please have a wonderful evening and keep safe :)

OP said "I always click through and purchase in the same manner" so I'm not sure why you're pasting level one support responses about adblock. Your first paragraph basically says bad luck so sad. You then say you might actually follow up like it's some gracious gift bestowed. This is not confidence building or showing much goodwill.

Sorry but the pattern that seems to repeatedly occur is that small ones are fine and large ones go missing. Which is Exactly as OP experienced:

mix of cashbacks that came through instantly with no hassle

      and then a

      $70 of cashback declined

Not pasting at all, and contrary to your comment, not once have I insinuated bad luck so sad. I'm trying to be helpful but you seem to want to read between the lines with your own take on the issue. Remember the $70 cashback was not tracked - it was a claim that was declined by Groupon, not Cashrewards. Not sure what more you're expecting from me/CR, but let's just wait to hear back from Groupon. Thanks.

Hi TA, once again thank you for taking the effort to help out your customers - it's service like this which makes me risk making these large transactions through CR in the first place! Thank you for being transparent and providing the information you have available on your end. Unfortunately the screenshots do not give me much to work on, though no fault of CR, I understand this is the information we have to work on.

I don't use Honey, I always switch off my AdBlock before clicking on the CR links (sometimes even re-activating the cashback via the browser extension once or twice just to be sure), and I follow through with the transaction in the one sitting without doing anything else on my web browser. This is the method I have always used and it's mostly yielded successful transactions with a couple of unsuccessful ones like the ones mentioned here. We could keep listing out the details of my web browser and the plugins I use, amongst other conditions for how I made the purchase, but I suspect it will not be easy to pinpoint where the sale attribution failed (nor would it necessarily be replicable on someone else's machine).

Thanks for taking the time to investigate and I look forward to hearing what Groupon have to say.

Thanks for the kind words. The transparency was to show we don't decline claims or transactions unless the merchants do so. Leave this with me - hoping Groupon gives some context. Have a great night.

Hi divineiniquity. Just followed up again with Groupon and they've confirmed the request is sitting with their tech team and will get back to us as soon as they can. Also please note they're based in the US so responses aren't as fast as I'd hoped. Will update you when I hear back. Thanks for your patience.

Just sharing my dodgy Groupon tracking experience on ShopBack: I made a purchase on a day they had upsized cashback, but it eventually appeared in my cashback activity dated a few days after the actual purchase, with the normal cashback rate. I didn’t even make any Groupon clicks on that date.

When I enquired about the transaction and cashback rate, according to Groupon the order wasn’t attributed to ShopBack (even though it was, just recorded on the wrong date with lower cashback??).

To be fair, ShopBack resolved it by manually adding the difference in cashback.

But it definitely left a bad impression about Groupon.
