Ebay Plus $50 Off Voucher - Refund Scenario

Hi Ozb,

I signed up with Ebay plus early this month as I saw that I could get $50 off voucher if I signed up.
I used that voucher to purchase 4 items totaling $54.11 which I paid the difference of $4.11 with my PayPal.

3 weeks later, one of the items costing $15.95 had not arrived, so I asked the seller.
They produced a full refund they said, but my PayPal said I only received $1.21, even though the item cost $15.95.

How did ebay/paypal work out that they only needed to refund me $1.21?
Does anyone know?
It kind of sucks that it means I did not get the full benefit of the $50 voucher…

TIA

Pro Rata refund…. on what you REALLY paid.

You got a refund, ebay got a refund on its voucher.

    • Can I get the refund amount which went to ebay?

A refund of what? 'free' money? You only paid $4.11 for $54.11 worth of 'goods'. Of which you got a $1.21 back.

        • He paid for the $50 voucher on sign up. It just came with a free eBay plus subscription.

No he didn't pay $50 for the voucher, he got a 'free' $50 voucher as part of the eBay plus subscription. He still has the eBay plus subscription.

  • You lose all coupons when you get a refund for an amount you did not pay.

Add something to your cart and go to the checkout, have a look down the bottom to see if there's a voucher there for the refund value…

This happened to me. Simply contact eBay for the voucher

  • yeah, ebay voucher is a rort, I got the same issue. Took me nearly a year to get to use the voucher, just before the expiry date because using the voucher doesn't make any financial sense, I could either buy identical item somewhere cheaper or the other discount code work out much cheaper than that $50 'free' money. And gues what Auspost lost the item, seller did the right thing by sending a replacement when I raised dispute but for some reason they didn't act on it properly so ebay decided to refund me anyway, but I already got the item so seller is in a lost.

Remember ebay always wins, I just ditched ebay, figure out I can get most stuff cheaper on Amazon or ali express.

  • It should be returned as a eBay voucher. After you buy something and go to checkout. Go to voucher (where we normally add voucher code) and it should be there.

    • Its not there .. maybe it will be in few days time?
I dont have my hopes up..
