The "Clearance Table" - bargain hunters paradise

You all know the feeling when you see a table at the back of a shop with clearance items, damaged packaging or returns some up to 80% off. What good deals have you found on these tables and do you have a strategy to visit at certain times to get the best deals?

My local Harris Scarfe often has a clearance table and I have grabbed a couple of very cheap items there. Mostly "home" brand stuff but still good buys.

If it's like when I used to work at Myer, any decent markdowns are often snaffled by staff. I remember getting a brand new Oroton purse for my gf for $5 and a PSOne for $50 back when it was still well over $100 (only cos we couldn't resell it due to customer refund for change of mind).

I've managed to get quite a few quilt covers for kids (designs like Mr Men, Transformers, harley davidson, winnie the pooh, etc ) at target for <$12.

Also, at toysrus, got a radio controlled car for $5 (down from almost $150) It had the remote and battery cover missing. The instructions had a contact number for spare parts. Called to ask to buy a replacement remote. They send by mail a battery cover, a remote and a set of decorative stickers for the car….. for free!

Kmart is awesome some days. Customer returns are FTW

I got a 10ft Bestway swimming pool (the ones with inflatable rim and soft sides) RRP $100, Kmart special $69 - Clearance (a return) $10. There was another one there last week, but it was $15 LOL

Green Machine (trike thing for kids) $5 (stated parts missing but there wasn't)

Full size Netball hoop thing with sturdy base and wheels - missing 2 brackets (I made from an old shower curtain rail) for $30

Tons of stuff - too much to remember (it's my first point of call when I go there)

And Bunnings is always worth a look. Last year I went apeshit buying LED lights after Christmas for $5 each - huge sets, worth $50 or so each. Oh, and I got tons of Solar lights too a few years back, also $5 per set. Bunning is especially good when they dump a supplier, and the manager says "clear those shelves".

The best tables are the ones in Myer where they are already reduced and you get another 75% off it. They sometimes have some nice clothes in those racks and also electronics, real bargains to be had.

    • I bought 3 business shirts from one of those table. $8/9 each. excellent. $7 lOl jeans.

  • Oh hell yeah, clearance/managers specials tables are my fav :D

I love the Kmart ones (some cheap, cheap stuff) and the Dick Stiff ones. Got an awesome quality router from the DSE managers special table for $15 as it was a returned faulty product. One hardware reset later and I was rocking out online wirelessly. I still check the table every time I go there.

  • Recently got a 25 bottle wine rack for $5 at bunnings.

I love going into myer after the half yearly sales are over, they further discount the stock they couldn't get rid of.
