IKEA Click and Collect

Whilst the NSW lockdown restrictions have resulted in IKEA physically closing their stores, they remain in operation via their online channel which offers (1) delivery and (2) contactless click and collect.

Click and collect service, however, is a paid service, starting from $5 (https://www.ikea.com/au/en/customer-service/services/click-a…). What is everyone's thoughts on this cost, for what typically other retailers would not charge for?

For reference, delivery costs (https://www.ikea.com/au/en/customer-service/services/deliver…):
* Furniture: 0-50kg ($49), 50-150kg ($69), 150kg+ ($89)
* Parcel: From $9

    Is your purchase essential? If it is, $5 is a small price to pay.

    If the $5 cost forces people to wait until the lockdown is over to purchase whatever they were going to purchase then isn't that a positive?

    $5 sounds fair; it is quite a walk from start to finish

      I'll add to that, they get your order ready in it's own bags (included to keep) or trolley beforehand. You get a timeslot to attend there. There's staff that advise you where to park, you put hazards on, someone comes to confirm your order number and takes down license plate. Few mins later, someone else comes out with your order and they even help you load up.

      To be honest, it's not bad service for a fiver. Might not be worthwhile for a lightbulb or pack of eneloops but pretty good for anything more than that.

    It’s not within my radius so no point me paying it. If I needed it, I’d pay delivery. If not, I’ll wait.

  • If it is small item get it delivered for $9.

  • Have you ever ordered from Target for click and collect? You select the store, and then it says “item in stock” (or whatever) and then you would think that the staff would go to the shelf and pick the item?

    But no, the item gets sent from another store, and then you have to wait a few days for the item to be delivered before it’s ready

  • Kmart does free click and collect for orders over $20, can't see why Ikea couldn't do it. They can use the people standing around usually helping customers and checking them out to collect the stuff for you.

    I had to wait almost an hour for click and collect at their tempe store for them to bring me my goods. $5 for Click, Wait & Collect isn't a good price.

    If ure going to say but if its "essential" waiting an hour and paying a small price is a small price to pay… you're missing the point completely. If you are buying anything from IKEA right now you have to pay $5 for click and collect. We can go in circles about what's essential for one person's circumstance isn't for another, so I'm not going to do it.

  • Click in collect should be free if customers bought over certain values. And it should not be 24 hours wait.yes the store is huge, but if they smart they can have all products stored near the exits. I love the sms feature when you are outside and they bring the item to you and the occasional free chocolate.

    Just stump up the $5, else get it delivered.
    Ikea are lucky in that they've cornered the budget furniture market and they're not stupid when it comes to making an extra dollar.
    No one is forcing you to buy from IKEA.

    Is the purchase really essential though?

  • I bought a new office chair for WFH just before the end of the year for collection.
    It took me a little while to arrange to go out and pick it up - when out of the blue I receive a cancellation and refund.
    It had only been a week or two. I was coming damn you Ikea.
    Not only did I not get my chair, I lost my deduction.

    they have always have this click & collect fee. regardless of lockdown or not.

    for what typically other retailers would not charge for?

    target and kmart charge click & collect fee for purchases less than $XX amount.

  • I hope that $5 go towards the workers

  • Paying 5$ for a good excuse to leave my 10km radius is worth it :)

  • It's worth the $5 to not have to walk the maze that is an IKEA store.

    • Yeah, they're trying to recoup the lost revenue as no one is around buying some junk whilst trying to get out of the maze.

  • Ikea should have free c&c after a certain threshold is met, like other stores. E.g. $50
    Probably could do the same for free delivery too.

    • Do other stores offer free Click and Collect or delivery of bulky goods like the stuff IKEA sells i.e. furniture?
