Warning about Myer One $100 Voucher with purchase

Hi All,

First time poster.

I just wanted to share a recent experience with Myer One that I hope that services as a future warning to others.

I have been eying a Dyson Airwrap (long version) for a while now and in late June I saw it for $719.10 (Down from $799) and it had a bonus $100 Myer One voucher that would be received after 30 days.

The long version has been hard to get on sale so I thought it was a good deal with the voucher.

The deal at the time stated the following:

" A valid, Opted in email must be registered on the primary MYER one account. Bonus e-Voucher will be emailed to the primary MYER one cardholder within 30 days of the promotion end"

So I bought the Dyson and made sure that my partner did have his current email on the account (he is the primary cardholder). My partner did not receive the voucher after 30 days I had have him email them as they would not talk to me about it (as I was the secondary cardholder).

Myer replied the following:

"I've had a look and it shows that you're opted out to receive marketing emails at the time the bonus voucher was issued hence you didn't received the $100 bonus voucher from the Dyson promotion.

In order to receive bonus vouchers members are required to be opted in to receive marketing emails at the time of making a qualifying purchase. As you were opted out at that time, you will not be receiving a bonus voucher. I do apologise for this."

I don't think this is right as the wording on the deal was not clear about being opted in for Marketing specifically. I have had my partner email back but I doubt we will get the voucher.

I don't really think that it is fair and I wonder if this has happened to other people.

I hope this serves as a warning to others in the future to avoid the disappointment as I do see these types of deals posted often.

Edit 1:

TLDR: Bought Myer item because of $100 gift voucher with purchase. Told afterwards not eligible for voucher as not signed up for marketing emails.

    I do apologise for this

Really poor form on Myer imo. Victim blaming, then apology to clean all sins, is not good enough.

I would follow this up. This is dodgy at best.
A bonus voucher should not be classified as marketing.

Yes that is what I have said in my response to them (through my partner the primary cardholder).

From my perspective I am giving them permission to contact that email address through buying the Dyson, if it is in regards to that purchase i.e. shipping notification, the Voucher etc

I guess I just expected them to be able to manually send it now, given the ambiguous wording.

If they do respond to the second email I will update my post but understand the delays in their end with the lockdowns.

I don't think this is right as the wording on the deal was not clear about being opted in for Marketing specifically.

So when you read the terms and it said this

"A valid, Opted in email must be registered on the primary MYER one account. Bonus e-Voucher will be emailed to the primary MYER one cardholder within 30 days of the promotion end"

What did you think you had to be opted in for then?

While it clearly doesn't say marketing, it does say you have to be opted in for something. So what did you think you opted in to be valid for the offer?

The long version has been hard to get on sale so I thought it was a good deal with the voucher.

You still saved $80, so was a still a deal :)

    • So at the time I read the "opted in" as having a valid/still active associated email with the account i.e. assurance that they would be able to contact the account holder.

My partner had still received emails from Myer One at the time, just not the marketing ones specifically. Just the ones with the Myer One points balance etc.

I think it was all made more complicated because I bought the Dyson with my Myer One number but I am a secondary cardholder so when disputing this I am not allowed to talk to them, even though it is reflect on my Myer One account, my email and with my payment method.

Yes it was good to save the $80 :) just frustrating about the situation as I imagine I am not the first one that this has happened to.

      • Don't waste your time you did not follow their t&c's .
Next time read them more carefully .

  • Anyone got the short version?

Have you got the original ad anywhere?

If the ad fundamentally says '$100 voucher with purchase' then you've got quite solid grounds to fight this through ACCC.

Lol do you really think its worth all that time for a huge reward of a Myer Voucher worth around $91 .
      I glad some people think s8 :)

    • Yes Switchblade88, I took a photo of it at the time.

The wording at the top states “purchase a Dyson airwrap styler and receive a bonus $100 Myer one e-voucher*” then the * links to the wording in my post.

Not sure if I will pursue further as popsiee pointed out below.

I will probably just not shop with them in the future.

Thank you for the advice though.

Do a credit card charge back and tell them they did not opt-in to NOT be charged back.

  • I had the same issue with Ikea. Spend over x amount get y voucher. After a few weeks, I got nothing. Went in to ask what the situation was and they told me it was because I opted out of marketing and communication materials (i.e. junk mail).

Gave a call to Ikea head office and they fixed it. Have you tried giving Myer head office a call? 13MYER (13 69 37)
