Protective Fabric Masks

Which fabric masks work better than just wearing a scarf around your face? Any recommendations?

No one knows, as testing can't be done on every random fabric.

Uniqlo ones are good, that’s my own confirmation bias.

Quick, start a thread asking if Uniqlo are the best and then argue with everyone who says they aren't… 'Tis the OzBargain way.

Or get dramatic and blame shift.

Which fabric masks work better than just wearing a scarf around your face?

    pretty much any that is
    a) mask shaped and therefore better fitting
    b) more than just 1 layer of very porous material like a scarf

so, like all of them would be better than a scarf

A mask that has 3 layers is recommended by the Chief Health Officer in Victoria while wearing a scarf around your face, unless you are robbing a bank, does little or nothing, and AFAIK is not recommended.

But channel 7 and 9 reported vaccinations caused clotting, 5G, wifi and the boxes of masks say they provide NO PROTECTION!

    :(

You need 7 and 9 to tell you about vaccine risks but you're happy to ignore the risks of covid-19 to yourself and everyone else in the community? Why am I not surprised?

The warning on a box of untested overseas surgical masks isn't scientific opinion, it's a catch-all disclaimer for idiots - much like this: https://thumbor.forbes.com/thumbor/960x0/https%3A%2F%2Fimage…

Suggest you do some elementary research on how masks significantly reduce the transmission of corona viruses before you sully another deal.

My bad, this was poorly delivered sarcasm. I was just reading so much of that other post, I lost too many brain cells.

I'm all for wearing masks and being vaccinated.

In that case my bad also. I read your comments on the other deal and thought you were a fanboi of the dangerously ignorant Deeseeee. Didn't pick the sarcasm so I apologise also. It's a pity there's no decent standard emoji for sarcasm eh?

@[Deactivated]: Don't be. I'm glad the misinformation being pedalled isn't going uncontested.

But at the same time, lose a little faith in humanity when I read and hear how nonsensical and impossible to reason with some people can be.

No emoji, but /s is sarcasm.

            • @SF3: Yep I'm familiar with that thanks SF3 and have used it myself, although it's not common.

            • @SF3: I didn't know. Thanks, will be able to use it next time.

Simple test. Put your scarf under running water. Look at the rate water comes through it and how easily it comes through.

Then buy a super cheap face mask (not paper, they're not really made for running water being paper and all) and try the same thing. You'll notice it doesn't let water easily flow through it (if at all).

Think about the fact your sneeze is basically a pile of droplets of water.

  • We are ~18 months into COVID-19 in Australia, and you only ask now?

Maybe they decided to switch from disposable face masks just now?
