I was going to congratulate you on being one of the few for reading the T&C's prior to entering a contract, but it seems you didn't do that right either…

Minimum Cost over 12-month commitment term is 279.90. If you wish to cancel your plan early you will need to pay an Early Exit Fee. The Early Exit Fee when cancelling between month-1 and month-9 of the Commitment Term = 3 months undiscounted plan fees. Early Exit Fee when cancelling between month-10 and month-12 = 1-months undiscounted plan fees. The maximum early exit fee is $120

It is under "Plan Information & Terms", which is folded and not easy to see.

Of course it's not, it's in their best interests to provide it to you in the most insignificant way whilst still upholding their requirements by consumer law. That way when OP goes to cancel they say "sure, that will be $120 please" and OP go "crap I should have read the really hard to find fine print" - which thankfully in this case, OP did.

Don't get me wrong, it's a low act hiding it in the weeds, but it's also common practice.

        • I have been using koganmobile for over a year and kind of trust them.

I actually did purchase the voucher, but fortunately, I read the term once before I actually activated it. So in my case, I have lost $4.90, but I did not proceed applying the voucher ;(

          • @codingNothing: If you haven't used the voucher you can call kogan mobile for a refund.

            • @wekimekigugudan: So that refund would apply to these ones too, correct? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-mobile-sim-prepaid-starte…

I've been buying them in advance because months ago Kogan increased the expiry date to 31/03/2022. But I just noticed they've cut it right back again to only this October! I have no idea when they changed it. So I probably have to use all the SIMs I bought or get them refunded as you suggested.

Do you have other info on it, like is it on their site somewhere, do you have to do it before or after the SIM expires, etc?

              • @[Deactivated]: I bought 2* this, activated the sim couldn't get the voucher working as I weren't aware of the port-in offer, called up Kogan Mobile and they issued me a refund for both unused vouchers.

In OP's case it's possible to get a refund too.

                • @wekimekigugudan: Ok thanks. I'm loading up all the downloads I need, to see how many SIMs I can burn through lol.

      Updated, thanks.

I saw both number, but I stopped reading in detail. Since both number were much higher than the $20 discount for the first month.

  • Thanks for flagging this!

Dumb warning, not a trap, it's all clear in the T&Cs.

Just get $4.90 prepaid for first month and cancel the automatic recharge after you activate.

The thread was for "existing customer".

    • Two different things. The OP is referring to a yearly plan where Kogan charge you every month unless you pay an early exit fee of $120 to cancel. Your link is the ongoing 30 day plan without any contract, which you can just login to your account at any time and delete your credit card info to cancel the debits with no exit fee.

This was posted as a deal a few days ago, post was unpublished

  • Just wonder what if I choose a new number as 2ndary sim and leave it there after 1st month. There's no way Kogan can charge you?

  • i just got this activated, not sure how to exit the contract now :/

  • Nope, i realised this and stopped buying Kogan prepaid plans immediately.

  • Ordered one, hasn’t received SIM card yet except voucher, can I cancel and refund?

I had a similar issue when trying out their service. They treat it as a "contract" and charge you a termination fee if you choose not to recharge.

I explained that I should not be obligated to recharge a prepaid service and it was well within my right to do so. Preventing me as such means they are extending a contractual agreement that should have entailed a credit check, terms and acceptance. If this was a term they were insistent on upholding, they can answer to the TIO about these practices.

Consequently was called back and offered a full refund for everything.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience. I sent them an email with similar wording and got a call offering a full refund.
