Boost $150 Legacy Prepaid, Changes to International Inclusions

I just received an email from Boost advising the $150 80GB 12m prepaid is being migrated to the $200 100GB prepaid from September 21st.

First renewal gets an automatic $50 discount, so not bad really, extra data, same cost for another year. Might be looking for another deal in a year though as $200 is more than id like to pay.

The included international countries has gone down from 25 to 20 selected destinations.
My preferred destinations are still included, so I can live with it.

Anyone happen to notice this and know which 5 have been dropped from the unlimited included list?

Morbid curiosity makes me wonder if we entered a contract when we paid for 12m with certain terms and conditions providing 25 included countries and now Boost is in breach of contract?

    • Indeed, I don't have the original list to know which 5 have been dropped. Probably could find out by calling them, but might lose the will to live during the call based on my previous experiences with Boost.

If they don't give you an option of a refund of any reminding time then yes it could be considered a breach depending on how many days are left. If they offer you a refund for any remaining days then no.

The plan update page FAQ mentions
    https://boost.com.au/pages/the-new-boost-mobile-prepaid-plan

I don't want to update my plan, Can I get a refund?
"We will provide at least 30 days notice before updating your plan so you have plenty of time to decide whether the new plan is right for you before your next refund. (shouldn't that word refund be the word recharge?)
If your updated plan no longer suits your needs, you may be eligible for a refund of the remaining portion of your recharge. Find out more here."

They are giving you the opportunity to refund your remaining credit on a pro rata basis. So the answer is no, no breach of contact as you are free to request a refund.
Just make sure you understand the terms on the refund page.

Also note the plan change date given to you could be postponed and delayed and then be done with no warning what so ever. Like Telstra did with me. :(

  • Thanks for the detailed response, I'm not suprised they have wriggle room in their terms. I'll not be starting that case expiring to retire on the findings in my favour.

Mainly posted to raise awareness in case someone missed the removal of the 5 countries.

    Cheers

  • Yeah, received this email too. The countries I call are still there, and like you, after the first renewal I might need to move to another company as I don't use my phone that much.

  • I was also got an email advising that in Sept my plan will be updated without the $50 discount.
But since i have a spare $150 sim, i have requested to be loaded onto my current sim and they offered me 100GB data and 1 year expiry. So this the same as the $200.
Great for them able to help me with less hassle porting in and out and honouring the old sim plan.

    • Can you please send me the email?

  • I lost my text from last year with the $50 off my next recharge and they said they need a screenshot of it.
    Can anyone send me one?
    Cheers
