Good price for a nice coffee machine.
Better than past bigW specials, except for the bundle with grinder last year that I see in the search results.

Even the folk at coffeesnobs seem to grudgingly approve it:

I can't comment on this machine at all, but find it funny that you say "even the folk at coffeesnobs seem to grudgingly approve it" when the links in that search state (in order from the top):

    -"Sunbeam EM5900 Arista - descaling problem…"

-"I don't know about the rest of you, but I cannot for the life of me get good
consistent microfoam with my Sunbeam 5900"

-"I bought a Sunbeam EM5900 2 days ago and its driving me demented."

-"The espresso I get from my EM5900 is always thin in texture and mouthfeel, and
when balanced in flavor it's just bland"

    :)

I got this machine a while ago and did quite a bit of research on the coffeesnobs forum. This machine is basically the same as the EM6910 but with one thermoblock.

If you get this machine, you HAVE to get a single walled filter (unpressurised) to get good cafe like coffee.

      http://www.breville.com.au/parts-accessories/single-wall-fil…
These ones from breville fit perfectly and are $25 (you just have to ring them up and 'say' you have an ES800 to order them).

Very happy with my machine after I got the single wall filters and with practice have gotten consistent microfoam.

      • If it's essentially a single TB 6910 then that's really good for the price. Unpressurised baskets will definitely help; will likely need a decent grinder though.

      • I ordered my single wall Breville filter here: http://www.belstar-electrics.co.uk/products/MS%252d0907163-%…

With shipping to Australia it came to £10.90.

    • Oh dear. But if you can mention a problem with a model at coffeesnobs, and people offers fixes rather than telling you to bin it, it must be better than 90% of machines out there. Anything sold at a general whitegoods shop is considered entry level at best.

  • looking for a machine and this did get me wondering but yeah i took the coffeesnobs comments in the way Evil Elmo saw them - avoid

  • Thanks for the link, was after the grinder, but really don't want to pay the $7 delivery. Had free delivery on everything else I've ordered recently, and paying $7 just seems wrong.

I've got the previous version of this coffee machine (em5800) and it's nothing special. I got it for free from a Big W promotion once, but wouldn't have paid for it.

  • Found this review. Good for the price but bring back the Target $248 deal with the 0405 grinder!

This review was favourable. Mark Dundon is a respected coffee roaster and famed former owner of St Ali and current owner of 7 Seeds/BBB/De Clieu. He likes it.
