About time (Amaysim now including 13/18 numbers in Unlimited Plan)

Just received an email from Amaysim (signed up through a $10 deal for their unlimited prepaid service). Apparently they are now including 13 and 18 numbers in their Unlimited plan. It will be interesting to see how quickly the others follow.

I'm surprised the ombudsman hasn't taken the phone companies to task over these a long time ago. They're supposed to be for the price of a LOCAL call (or free for 18 numbers)

  • Yup, got that email too. Also 15 numbers, though I've never seen any of those.

    • No, nor have I, that's why I didn't bother mentioning them. But yes, it does include 13, 15 and 18 numbers. Something like this sure makes ditching the landline look very attractive (for those of us still living in the last century who still have it lol)

      • How's the "Broadband" internet speeds? ;) Up there with ADSL2+?

        • You carry your desktop on a train? :)

Srsly, I use Naked ADSL2+ and make phone calls with Skype, VOIP, or my mobile. Works out cheaper for my usage profile than paying for a landline phone.

Most of our calls are voip. We've really just held onto the landline to save family having to pay for calls to a mobile number. In reality it would cost us significantly less to provide long-life mobiles for them to call us but they'd consider that a hassle.

        • Couldn't you get a VOIP indial number or would informing everybody be too much hassle?

There aren't any DIDs that are local calls for them, otherwise we'd probably have done that a while ago. That coupled with the fact that we can't get adsl 2 anyway, at this point I think we're avoiding getting locked naked adsl contract to see what happens with nbn in our area.

        • I always laugh at people who want fast internet on their phone, and want to use VoIP for calls on their computer.

What we do here is the reverse - we use the computer for browsing the internet, and we use the phone for calling people. It's so much easier LOL

        • You'd be singing a different tune if you had to call overseas regularly. The calls I make on Skype would cost more than my entire Internet spend if I made them by phone. The Internet is showing up just how overpriced traditional telephony is.

You obviously don't need to use internet when you're away from home much then, and don't need to make many charged long distance calls. It can become very easy in these days of capped plans to forget that not everyone is on them.

I can assure you, when you're tied into a post paid Telstra contract VOIP is a bl**dy good alternative.
