Which 1TB NVMe SSD to Buy?

Really wanted to go a 2tb nvme but they are a bit expensive.

Which 1tb drive should I get then to hold me over?

Going for value but needs to be fast enough (perhaps have dram? What about sram?)

My mobo comes with heatsinks for them

    Fast enough for what?

    PS5? Get an SN850, Firecuda 530 or 980 Pro.

PC? Doesn't really really matter in real world use. Check if Gen 4 works with your mobo/CPU.

Paying little extra for DRAM versions is recommended for speed consistency and longevity.

    • For pc

Yeah its so hard to even know which cheaper models have dram

stick to ssd unless u can come up with a specific use case except PC forget it, till u know what ur uses case is bound by ie random reads ,random writes, or sequential reads writes, que depth, and add on 4k or above 4k, it will all just taste like great alcohol after the first few shots……….. for me high even the octane p905 i think it was beats everything is random iops reads which is how you get that "speed" in windows or something else but after its cached into mem it dosnt matter, for os drive i guess there is nothing better, but it costs lots of $$ the next best as far as i knos is the 980 pro and the xonar gold plated one, because both supported 4x pcie and u need that 570 mother board, apart form that even that is gona give you not much more than a placebo effect.

i laugh at these things, my 12 years old 80gb intel x25 is still going strong after all this time and it didnt have trim!

        Angry very angry ppls

    • My old mobo has 8 sata ports but my new one only 6. I need to free up one port. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered

  • Given the relatively small difference between the cheaper and best (and given the high price paid for CPU's and GPU's), I suggest biting the bullet and going for the latter:

(Both 600TBW - Terrabyte written endurance)

A decent cheapr/slower model would be the Crucial P2 (lower performance, and endurance 300 TBW)

  • https://www.bpctech.com.au/cssd-f2000gbmp400-corsair-force-m… - FYI, this is a good price for a 2TB drive, MP400 for $340. 1TB version sells for around $190 and the 2TB version has really good write speeds. Not a whole lot more than 2x1TB cheap drives at the moment.

Downside is it's not the deal of a lifetime and still a lot of cash outflow, but it saves the time of having to swap drives later.
