Which UHD Monitor? Dell P2721Q vs S2722QC

I need help from Ozbargain's collective "wisdom"… I don't know a huge amount about monitors.

I'm looking to buy a 27" usb-c UHD monitor and have narrowed it down to a couple of options from Dell:

This monitor is mainly for web design work and general WFH, must be UHD as my partner will be using it when working from home and needs UHD to test website compatibility. Won't be used for gaming so not particularly worried about a super high refresh rate.

Both monitors look very similar to me when running through the specs. Google tells me the P series should sit above the S series in the Dell lineup, but the S series monitor is much newer (just released so I can't find any reviews) so might be better(?)

Can anyone more knowledgeable than me provide a recommendation one way or the other since the price difference is negligible?

  • One of the major advantages of the P2721Q is that it has USB-C Power Delivery (PD) up to 65w. perfect for plugging a cable in to your USB-C enabled laptop (e.g. Macbook) and getting video, USB hub, and charging, all from one cable. It might also have a better stand, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

They both seem to have the same 65W USB-C hub I think

  • I would also like to know this but could be tricky as you say the S2722QC has just been released. I did read somewhere the Dell guarantees no dead pixels on the P ('professional') series.

Can I ask where you are getting those coupons from?

    • Both seem to have the same guarantee: "Premium Panel Guarantee".

The coupons are student discounts (.edu.au email required) from here:

The S series is already 45% off a (probably inflated) RRP so only the 7% off coupon is worth applying for that monitor.

    I got 3 of these recently - https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-4k-uhd-monitor-s2721…

I got them when they were on special and they are great. WFH with web development and they are great! Upgraded from 24 inch 1920x1080 10 year old monitors to these and I am so glad for the change!

    • Nice setup!

  • What coupons are you using to get those prices?

  • Looks like S2722QC has speakers on it! (and the back is a bit fancier)
Also refresh rate at 'extreme' is 4ms? (so faster)..

What did you end up with?

    • Ended up buying the S series… Should be delivered in about a week. In the end I just figured that given they look so similar in all other respects (apart from the speakers and faster refresh rate you pointed out) that it'd probably be worth getting the newer model.

Agree, yea im leaning this way too - id REALLY appreciate it if you can tell me / paste a photo maybe of what the back colour really looks like IRL? I'm trying to see whether a white, silver or black mounting arm be most ideal..

Feels like black is safe, white might look silly, and silver (brushed) could possible look fantastic

        Thanks again!

  • Heads up - the S2722QC is now listed as $649 full price (not discounted) so if you apply a full price coupon code (easily findable via a google search) you can get it for around $550 which is pretty good for a USB-C 4K display.

    • Doh! Wish I'd waited a couple of days

      • I bought two on eBay today for $369 ea - see if you can get a refund and re-purchase.

    • Now an incredible $369 via this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646981

  • I was wondering the same thing! Seems like they have a bit of a confusing lineup at the moment. The P2721Q, S2722QC, and U2720Q barely appear to have any major differences aside from price and aesthetics. Trying to decide for myself. The S2722QC seems like a great deal and a new model, but the U2720Q looks nicer to me despite costing hundreds more

Any change you can get a refund? Dell eBay is selling s2722qc for $369 according to https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/646981
