Gluten Free Biscuit Bargains - Where Are They?

My wife was recently diagnosed coeliac, and apart from getting a horrendous grocery bill it’s damn hard to find a biscuit bargain.
If I crumble this down for you, gluten free biscuits are pretty much sugar, oil and rice flour. Hardly expensive. But finding anything that is reasonably price is an arduous task.
Let me know your best gluten free biscuit bargains. Points for great deals and creative options.

Missus' mother is Coeliac. She bakes all her treats usually, cost effective and fun plus she definitely knows what goes into it. It's amazing the amount of places that offer gluten free but don't understand that even simple things such as a new knife when putting butter on toast is essential as even a couple of crumbs can make people pretty sick.

A friend of mine is Coeliac, she's found it really important to tell restaurant staff she has Coeliac disease (then explain what that is if they don't understand) rather than just say she's gluten free, thanks to all the fad dieters out there.

Bloody annoying for her, she's basically scared of going to a cafe thanks to all the bread products around and that many people think it's just about minimising, not eliminating.

Unfortunately removing the gluten also removes the deals

Gluten free is expensive even wholesale - it's not just the ingredients, but the preparation processes/machinery- and in a commercial setting that basically means a dedicated factory for specific product lines to avoid cross-contamination.

Same capital costs for a turnover maybe 5-10% in volume of another similar item means your cost/item sold is ten to twenty times more. And that's not including additional labour for extra cleaning etc.

I know a colleague makes their own treats with the flour from aldi, as its usually a lot cheaper. Rice flour you can pick up from. An Asian grocer or Amazon.. Maggi also do a fantastic gluten free gravy, which you can get through amazon, specially food sellers, butchers, maybe costco. Knorr also do a gravy sold through the same channels.

I'm not Gluten free, but I still eat these all the time.

Same thing here in our household.

My 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with coeliac disease about a year ago.

While fad gluten free diets have made life easier in terms of tracking down edible gluten free foods, unfortunately they don't come cheap - especially gf pasta!!

    • That sucks for you and your daughter. We’ve had more luck with the lentil pasta but it’s certainly comes with the price tag.

Do you live in South East Melbourne? Kez's Kitchen has a factory outlet shop. I used to go there when I worked at the RACV Head Office. Heaps of GF biscuits and other stuff. Comes in clear bags rather than the normal packaging. Worth giving them a call to see if they are open at the moment.

Great find. We are not too far away. They have really good stuff but with the price tag. We will check it out.
