I am buying this mainly was DisplayLink capability which older tech needs to expand to multiple monitors and DisplayLink is usually expensive.

In my case, it is also the most affordable option to enable the Chromebook Duet to be expanded to external monitors since it uses a weird spec and can't do USB C Video Output properly. You'll still need to add an USB C to A adapter but that's quite affordable

  Not sure I'd class DisplayLink as expensive or at least not "good" (it's hot garbage for OpenGL if you ever use anything that uses it) but good deal!

    Pretty much need DisplayLink to make more than 1 monitor work with Apple M1 Macbooks though. Trying to do 2 extra screens with my Macbook was a fun experience without it.

      Will this actually give me an extra monitor on the M1? I have one though a similar USB-C to HDMI dongle, but it isn't DisplayLink. Will this dongle give me an extra one if I install DisplayLink drivers (which I assume are available for M1)?

    Yes, but remember the Duet isn't a fast device and outputting to a monitor takes resources as well.

      Does the one you bought (this listing) power the Duet at the same time? If so, what connection does it use to input power to the hub? It's not clear from the image or description.
