Xbox one thumbstick grip replacements without replacing joystick?

Just wondering if there are any replacement rubber grips available for Xbox One controller thumbsticks that don't involve replacing the entire thumbstick? In particular I'm looking for green grips to match a minecraft controller colouring.

I realise there are grips that you can slip over the top of the old grips but these seem to be generally larger than the originals and perhaps don't fit as snugly if the original grip is completely gone. Looking for something that more closely mimics the original grips.

Was hoping there is something slimline that can be stretched over the plastic thumbstick or perhaps even heat shrunk once it is on.

Would prefer not to open the casing although I have done that in the past for other controllers, the minecraft one is a little more special to me.

    • Yeah I probably should have had something similar on there from the start to protect the originals.

  • You probably would get a better finish just replacing the joystick stalk/stick. Replacing this item is one of the easier things to do when compared to opening the other layers/items in the controller.

    • I agree, I've had a few Xbox one controllers apart in the past to repair various things, but wanted to keep this minecraft one intact if possible and not break the sticker seal.

I've seen a couple of green thumbsticks on ebay but they are either way overpriced or dont seem to be a good colour match (unless the photo colouring is way off).

  • Heat shrink in a thin band might get a close colour, but won't necessarily work well for usability.

+1 for replacing thumbsticks though. 5 Torx screws and you're in; and you'll have the best result at the end

    • Yeah I think I may just have to crack it open, not a big deal but was hoping there was a product that might very closely mimic the original grips without having to do so, surprised there doesn't seem to be.

      • The fundamental problem is that the rubber is fused into the plastic shell and dome during manufacturing. Because of this, you can't replace one without destroying the other

        • +1

More fused onto than into. Once the rubber starts to get really worn it will eventually just crack off from the plastic part completely.

In an ideal waste free world the caps on the thumbsticks would have been removable/replaceable like on the Elite controller, but then I guess that would cannibalise the elite controller market. You can buy similar metal thumbsticks with removable caps though and put them into a regular S controller, need to open the controller and break the seal to do so though.
