    1. Get a calendar
    2. Start from 1 July
    3. Count 10 months
    4. Check where you have landed.
    5. If 30 June then you can claim 12 months.
    6. If 30 April then you cannot claim 10 months.
    • yeh i cancelled in march this year so prob not then?

Point 6. Doesnt make sense - or did you mean to say

If 30 April then you can claim 10 months.

      • No, it makes complete sense.

The ATO question has a yes/no answer: Were you and all your dependants covered by an appropriate level of private patient hospital cover from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021?

        OP's answer is No

      • Lol I wrote 12 months instead of 10 months in point 6 then after publishing it I thought "Oh crap how did I goof that up?" so I edited it. It must have made sense to start with because I didn't notice I put 'cannot' at the start.

TL;DR I am not an accountant.

    • its as simple as that.

      (it really is, no joke)

No. There might be a follow up question for more detail after that.
Actually, is that the wording? Is it for "the whole year" and not "any part of the year"?

  • The answer is no. But there should be a spot to put how many days you were covered for or, if you’re income is below the threshold then you don’t need to pay the surcharge.
