Are they really from Kalamata though?

    • Are they really from Kalamata though?

Were you expecting them to be produced in China?

They dont have to be, 'kalamata' name is protected only in europe

Just as I like my Bundaberg Rum from Bundaberg, I like my Kalamata olives from Kalamata.

    • Why are they called olives if they're brown?

      • Probably because they aren't from Kalamata.

    • The olives in Kalamata are better than bread and butter

  • +3

Is that a good price for 2kg of kalamata olives. I'm assuming the 2kg includes the liquid so really I'm guessing 1.2kg of olives.

    • +2

I pay around $9/kg at our local deli (no liquid). But they are much nicer than these ones, and infinitely better than the ones from Coles and Woolies.

      • Which deli shop?

        • +1

lots of good local continental delis in Melbourne sell for around that price… Try Oakleigh, Doncaster etc…

  • i prefer whole kalamatas instead of pitted, i find the pitted ones are mushier and the ones with pits inside are firmer after pits are removed

    • The regular small jars of pitted from aldi are handy for pizzas and whatnot.

Still got a whole jar of jalapenos but may have to stock up for that price. Usually $11-12 at Woolies

  • +4

these olives are fine - i always have a jar of these in the fridge - they are small but very cheap and handy for a quick rinse under the tap and a squeeze to make sure there is no pip left inside - great for wraps, pizzas, sandwiches, bread maker etc - not too salty either - keep the big expensive olives for when it really counts

  • Olives are cheaper at coles and woolies: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/534878/woo…

      $0.44/100g X 20 = $8.80
Not much in it and a lot of those generic supermarket ones are pretty bad tasting. I'd rather the aldi ones. Still fattening but healthier than olive oil

    • +3

They're not pitted, prob at least half the weight just in that.

  • You're not allowed to call it "port" anymore, unless it's from Portugal. If it's from an Australian winery, you have to call it "tawny".

I still have a bottle of Penfolds Grandfather Port.

      Am I breaking the law?

      • +2

I wouldn't worry, I'm sure that bottle was grandfathered in.

      • NO you are breaking the law
