Optus reception is terrible in my better halfs new place, and the recent addition of the 850mhz tower in the area and some testing proved Vodafone speeds to be almost as good as my NextG speeds so this deal interested me, went in to EB games to buy a starter pack and they told me about that you can choose to not get a phone for $1 with the 365 deal but instead get a $100 eb games gift card, which can be used in store or on the same transaction for the credit.

So cliff notes:

$365 + $1 for a HTC bargain bin phone and 365 days of the above mentioned service as previously posted on here

OR

$365 for 365 days service and $100 EB Gift Card that can be used on the transaction to bring it down to $265 ($22.08 a month)!

First post, sorry about the layout

  • Neat trick.

Any idea how long the deal $100 card deal is set to run? My Telstra F&F plan is nearly out of contract.

    • $1 Handset Deal "Offer expires 30th of April, 2012 or while stocks last."

  • I asked and they told me they haven't been given an expiry date so can expire at any time.
I am going to do some further testing indoors before I lock myself in for a year but most likely will be picking this up tomorrow.
I was going to get one of those phones and try to resell it but this deal was perfect for me, saves me the hassle of trying to resell a piece of crap haha

  • Is a MicroSim for iPhones available?

    • no. have asked their team over the phone and email. they dont

      • oh ok, guess cutting the sim is the only option. and one more thing, up the top where it shows carrier name, it will say voda au right? not redbull mobile?

        • +1

you should be proud of being an ozbargainer!

        • No it says Redbull mobile!

    • Search for "sim card cutter" on eBay, lots there for about $11, shipped. It's a massive 'hole' punch that chops a micro sim out of a standard sim. Also, phone shops have these, ask nicely and they'll prolly punch it for you :-)

      • Scissors worked when I cut down a voda sim.

  • This is interesting!

  • +1

I got the red bull sim card a while ago and the reception coverage is good (Perth) but the internet speed is horrible.

If you're using a proxy in APN settings, try using without
I did my research before hand and it seems RBM is using some overloaded or just crap proxy in their default settings, users are getting good results when bypassing the proxy

      • That's what their support said. Tried that and failed.

There is not much we can really do to make the internet faster.
Some people have tried to delete the proxy ( if you go into your internet settings you can delete the 'proxy') this may speed up your internet.

Apart from that it may just be the coverage in your area.

  • can i buy now and activate later ?

    • Yes, the voucher expires in October.

  • Thanks for the heads up, heading to eb now :).

  • Where do you find this offer via eb web site?

    • Could not find it on their website, but maybe call your local before heading in.
I noticed the girl reading off some memo while she was telling me about the deals so I guess its fresh.

    • instore only I believe.

good deal apart from vodafone network which sucks

    • Just get a $2 Red Sim to check signal for yourself.

    • -1

Actually, the Vodafone network is awesome. I want you to keep saying it sucks though, 'cos then fewer people will sign up and it will continue to be awesome. Thanks!

      • +8

Why do you show up every time there's one of these promotions to White Knight Vodafone? The overwhelming people who use Vodafone say they suck. The Telecoms Ombudsman says they suck. Vodafone themselves say they suck. You're either an outlying case or trying to convince yourself that they're 'awesome' with impressive mental acrobatics.

        the Vodafone network is awesome

        Then you woke up. :)

HTC CHa Cha? The missis could a use a replacement for her old E71.

    • +1

You gotta pay extra for that though..

  • What if u go over the 5gb?

    • From their website: 2) Includes uploads and downloads. Data services stop once data allowance exceeded. Any unused Data allowance does NOT roll over into the next month. Data is calculated in 250kb sessions.

  • Pretty good value. But I want a new phone as well :(

  • I got this deal with the HTC explorer for $1 and sold the phone to a mate for $100. So all in all i got the same if not better.

    • +8

Actually you were $1 out of pocket.

      • Oh ozbargainers how i love you.

      • +2

        I'd rather $99 than a $100 EB gift card :P

        • EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!

        • +2

          Which part of:

$365 for 365 days service and $100 EB Gift Card that can be used on the transaction to bring it down to $265

is hard to read. Ie you don't have to stuff around trying to sell the phone. You walk in, pay EB $265 and walk out with 365 recharge.

    • Unsure how you could use a voucher before you have even purchased it, but if anyone can confirm that 100% yeah great deal!

      • The deal is %100, I bought the 365 recharge credit and received a $100 Gift card, the person in the store says that the gift card does not have an expiry date.

        • No, the fact that you can use the voucher for the initial purchase has to be wrong. How can u use a voucher you havent purchased yet.

  • Does the Galaxy s2 work on red bull mobile?

    • Yeha only iphones really have a problem with mms, which they are trying to fix with apple. Other wise its pretty much made for Android

  • $365 for 365 days service and $100 EB Gift Card that can be used on the transaction to bring it down to $265

Nice try, I asked EB games staff about using the $100 EB Gift Card to bring it down to $265.

    NO DEAL!

Oh, and if you try and wash the EB games $100.00 gift card by buying an item for $150.00 with $100 on the gift card, and $50 on a credit card, thats how the refund will work too. :(

    • Unfortunate my friend, Merrylands EB stressed the point to me that the gift card can be used on the same transaction.

      • WOW, That's fantastic! can you please upload a scan or picture of your receipt?

      • Ditto… could h0mbre please upload a scan of the receipt? I inquired in-store, and the sales chick checked with two managers, both of whom said the gift card couldn't be used in the same transaction.

    • +1

Called 3 ebgames stores in Melbourne Metro and all said "NO DEAL".

  • +1

Whats with these shenanigans? I call Tomfoolery! Tomfoolery Everyone! I said Tomfoolery. Eb Pacific Fair says NO DEAL

  • Cannot use bungled Gift Card in the same purchase?: WOW, this is no $22/mo deal then.
Cheap network, cheap fine print; caveat emptor!

    • Yes, that would be a bungled card for sure. :)

  • I can confirm that EB at merrylands will do this. They initially tried in the same transaction, but their system wouldn't allow it, so they charged me the full amount, then refunded $100 back to my card.

    • where is your receipt..?

      • +3

…which translates to "Could you please upload your receipt so that I can benefit from the deal you got too."

  • Can someone please post a receipt. Does this deal work or not "-_-

  • I would like to keep my existing number so are you able to port a number across for this deal?

  • Anyone know if this is still valid? Can't find a link to the actual offer and nothing on the EBGames website…

    • Turns out it's expired.
