Victoria: Final Year VCE Exam Content

So this year, kids studying a unit 3/4 subject are going to be examined on the whole year’s content. Last year VCAA altered this due to Covid and kids were only examined on the second half of the year.

Just wondering what you all think (is it fair for kids this year, is there anything that can be done to try and encourage VCAA to make the same concessions this year, etc?) and to give some entertainment in reading responses! :)

As long as it is the same for all students, I can't see the problem.

    • It not the same though .
Obviously the disadvantaged students from disadvantaged schools will have a huge handicap .

      • I don't think it is 'obvious' at all.
In all schools, there are different people, with different skills / talents.

Maybe you could define 'disadvantaged' to add clarity.

  • I really feel for any kid doing exams as the world is now.. exams are stressful enough for many without all the schooling from home/in school/back home again etc…

    Good luck to them all.

  • You Can’t really compare it. 100m race or 200m race or even a marathon. Is it easier for Usain bolt to win a medal then it is for Mo Farah to win a medal.

It's a ranking and there is a scaling system so no need to worry. Everyone will take the same exam.

  • That's not actually true. Perhaps for some subjects? But for example, in Business Management, some small elements were removed from the study design, making these not assessable, so they did not appear on the final exam. This year, lockdowns have occurred too late in the year, when most schools are nearly finished learning their content, and they were in different positions, so VCAA have not made any changes. We're still able to cover the content, so we can have our students examined on it.
