Help with Rust Treatment on Car

Good morning friends.

I know I can and will YouTube but I thought I'd ask local people here what they can offer.

I've got an older car that will eventually need to be repainted but for now I've been hearing about rust converter stuff? There's some rust around windows and drip trays so I'm hoping I can do something to stop or slow down the rust until I can get the car resprayed.

Anybody here that has actually used any particular product? Actual first hand experience would be great….

There's just so many products to choose from and hard to know what actually works..

If not I'll keep researching thank you.

    Fish oil?

  • Got a picture? Getting a respray isn’t cheap, especially with repairs. Is your car worth anything?

My experience says do it once, do it properly or don’t bother.

If it's a small area without holes or just surface rust any brand-name rust converter will work by neutralising the rust.

Just go to your local SCA/Repco etc., and have a chat with the staff there.

Deeper rust or holes in the bodywork will need the rust cut out and metal welded in or the use of body filler products, often an expensive job, possibly not worth it if you have an old beater.

  • Try Rust-eze

  • If a car gets to the point where it is rusting, unless it's a classic, surely it's time to swap it out for a new one?

  • It sounds like you are driving around in a pre- galvanized era vehicle.

Unless it's a classic or desirable car I think it's probably time to move on to a newer car or just live with the rust until it becomes unsafe.

I accidently found this tiny little garage on a side street/road and he was able to diagnose an issue and fix it where the others couldn't and since then I'll not go anywhere else if I can help it…

Get some advice from this dude.

  • Okay thanks thought there had to be a specific product to use.. all good I'll look into further

  • Fertan Rust Converter, it's non toxic. Used in marine environments (boats), I use on structural steel.
