Carsales Listing Fee!

Last time I listed a car for sale it was around $95, shocked to see that cars over $70k will cost $239! No wonder listings have dropped from around 220,000 to 160,000.

Tried free listing with Carsguide.com.au and even though our car is the cheapest by a couple of thousand, no inquiries in a week. Looks like monopoly will win.

    That makes sense. Cheers

Maybe bad maths but assuming $70k is your sale price, your advertising and marketing costs are less than 0.4%. Seems like a great deal - hope they will let us list houses soon.

    • In the scheme of things, it isn't much I agree. But they have become as bad as Trading Post if not worse when TP was the monopoly back in the days and Carsales came out with flat rate fee until sold back when internet was becoming widely accessible everywhere.

carsales is effectively the most well known so they price accordingly

like seek, domain, real estate dot com etc.

if you're #1 why care what peasants thing… buy or hit the bricks

    • They do let you sell houses yourself… it cost me like $400 for a sign out the front and to control the realestate.com and domain listing

  • Plenty of free options around still…. Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Flyers, etc

    • Flyers? Wouldn't this cost more money?
Are you talking about letterbox drop flyers, to sell a car or have I mis-understood??

      • Flyers like a sign in the window parked ona busy road perhaps?

    • Listed on marketplace as well, no bites in a week. Gumtree is just a waste of time. Both platforms are lowballers, Gumtree being worse.

  • I'm fine to have less listings if it's less crap.

I don't like how the same ads can be posted for year's and the seller just increases the list price back and forth by $1000s. Then to get emails about discounted price. Alot of seller's just posting cars they have no intention of selling unless a random sucker comes past and is willing to pay the over rated price. Should be say a 3mth listing then part refund if no sale and cap on the number of price adjustments. If your not getting bites early the price is probably high. My Rant

  • I was surprised how much it costs too. Didn’t list with them and have had good success on free sites. I don’t see why people would pay that much when here are free alternatives - but I’m not selling cars valued much over $10k

Wait for spackbace to chime in.

Everytime a random enquires about a dealership car the dealer gets charged something ridiculous like $200.

If you really want to piss off a dealer just give them half a dozen phone calls

      • I did this once. Rang back to a local car dealer who was really really rude while I was in the dealership and the DP was basically an arsehole to me on the phone for even trying to bring his staffs piss poor customer service to his attention.

I spent the next month or so making enquiries on their cars they had listed on CarSales. They had about 30~40 cars listed and I would make a new enquiry every day on a different vehicle. I don't think it was $200, I think it is closer to $50~$70 per generated lead. Even at $50/car, its still $1,500+
