eBay message: removed an item you recently won due to concerns with the seller's account

Hi,

I recently made a purchase on ebay and didn't do due diligence on the seller. I placed an order, and have received this message from ebay.

"We're writing to let you know that we've removed an item you recently won due to concerns with the seller's account:
<<ITEM DETAILS WERE HERE>>

Since you've already paid for the item, you don't need to do anything else. If your item hasn't arrived yet, it should arrive soon. If it doesn't, then you'll want to open a case in our Resolution Centre. You can learn how to do this, plus find timelines for opening cases, at:
http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/buy/item-not-received.html#res…

The next steps and actions are super vague from the ebay message

  • we've removed the item;
  • we've removed the seller;
  • you've already paid, so see what happens;
  • if nothing happens then create a dispute

Are there any recommendations of how best to approach this?

    Do what the email says - wait and see if it shows up, if it doesn't, start a dispute.

    It might be a hijacked account or something like that and someone has reported it.

    Exactly what they said, wait and see if item arrives.
    If it does and is what you’ve ordered, do nothing.
    If it doesn’t, or turns out to be some rocks, open a dispute.

    I was in a similar situation recently where I ordered a fitness band and received an electric toothbrush head with tracking. Judging by the ensuing feedbacks I was not the only one. Seller account was closed/suspended and dispute won without much effort (still annoying though).

    It's saying you have been ripped off, but they won't refund unless you chase it.

      No guarantee OP has been ripped off/scammed

    I've had a couple of these in the past and the items have arrived ok…

    Yeah I had one of these turned out to be copyrighted image used so it was removed.

    I received the item etc but man Ebay is frustrating to deal with these days.

    • Wouldn't want to be the seller in this case. eBay will act solely on the word of the buyer and you might not have an honest one

  • I've still got some time for the estimated delivery date, so will wait and see.

    Thanks for the feedback

    This happened to me when I bought a CD Key once.
    After the ETD, opened a dispute and it closed in my favor right away.

    Same thing happened to me recently. Check if the seller still has an account, and try contacting them if they do.

    In my case, the seller had deleted their account on eBay. I hoped the item would arrive, and diligently waited the 4 week estimated delivery timeframe and nothing turned up.

    Opened a dispute with PayPal (someone told me they are better than eBay as they will let you change the dispute from 'Never arrived' to 'Not as described' if required) which went through OK, but I did have to wait another 10 days to give the non-existant seller time to respond.

    If you can't contact the seller now, I would suggest you open the dispute straight away so you don't end up waiting many weeks like I did.

    exciting update: the seller has emailed a group (forgot to bcc) saying that there is a misunderstanding with ebay and item(s) will be shipped.

    All items in the store were removed and I couldn't contact the seller through ebay as the item was removed.

    Weird system

      That's kind of exactly what a dodgy seller would say to make sure you don't request a refund and they lose their ill-gotten gains.

      Wait until it's meant to arrive, if it doesn't, request a refund. If it arrives, happy days. Either way, then move on with life with the fond knowledge that eBay is actually useful sometimes.

        Oh for sure. Item's not meant to arrive for another week yet, so dinner is poised on the dispute button….. Our whatever button it is actually called

  • so the package arrived! But was as an order from a department store.

    It was as ordered though, so happy with that. A weird one
