TIL PVRs are still a thing.

  • These really a thing ? Most things you miss you can stream via SBS 7,9,10 etc

We have this, it replaced our previous Panasonic.. we mainly use it to record free to air as there is a show my partner likes. works well, what i don't like is how they moved some of the buttons on the remote. Has an upgraded newer looking UI over our previous. Has a dedicated internet and Netflix button, they could have made that one red but didnt. Other issue is no eject button on the remote and the on/off, & eject button are touch and nothing to tangibly see or feel. But no biggie..

I haven't felt the need to record free-to-air tv for >10 yrs. Who on earth would record 2TB worth?

I imagine there's a pretty poor overlap between the target users that would record crap content in typically low definition from FTA tv, and those people that would buy 4k Blu-Ray disks.

What's next, a Tesla with built-in car phone?

Who on earth would record 2TB worth?

People in regional areas, with crappy satellite broadband, capped at 80GB per month?
It's not all a first-world out there, you know.

      • I find it hard to believe Panasonic would bring this device to the Australian market for your demographic. Not because you don't deserve it, but they wouldn't sell enough.

  • I remember when i was given one of these years ago. It recorded in some weird file format that was protected. Same as when recording FTA to USB directly off the TV. That still the case with these things?

The market for this sort of thing must be extremely low.

    • Yeah, it's a real shame. Only a few like Beyonwiz aren't.

    Shuckable?

    • lol

    • Bought 3 to find out

  • This would be a better option for recording FTA programs.

  • using a PC would be cheaper, isn't it ? $100 optiplex or something like that

  • Buy a PS5, at least they won't be worth $0 as soon as you buy it

  • aren;t HD channels blocked from PVR from recording?

    • @godopizz "aren;t HD channels blocked from PVR from recording?"

      No!

  • DVD players, they still exist?

  • We got one for our wedding 13 years ago. Whenever I turn it on, it replays the Weather forecast just before black Saturday (I think). 7 X 40c days :(

  • if you are buying this why not get the Panasonic DMR-BWT955GL for $686 with 3D/4K upscale and triple HD recorder? :))
