Buying a Laptop that's "Opened - Never Used" on eBay

Hi All,

If you were to buy a Laptop on eBay where it's condition is Opened - Never Used, Is it reasonable to expect
that the Laptop would have 12 months warranty on it or that it still has some warranty left?

I bought a Laptop during the 15% off Afterpay Sale and when I went to check the manufacturers website for
updated drivers, it turns out it's already out of warranty.

Already in the process of returning it and getting something brand new this time around.

Should have the full 12 or 24 months remaining

Should have some warranty remaining on it

Wouldn't expect it to have any warranty remaining

  • Depends who you bought it from.

    Private seller? Don't expect anything.

    Online store? I'd expect something.

    • Online Store with over 12000+ feedback (98.6% positive)

        98.6% isn't very good

First of all, do you really believe that it's never been used? Anyone can say that a laptop hasn't been used, whether it's true or not.

Second, how old is the laptop? If they opened the package and left it for 2 years, well yeah, there isn't gonna be any warranty left.

Unless it's from an actual company seller like Dell's eBay store, I would avoid buying the laptop.

    • probably a good idea to avoid anything Opened - never used ehh

I like to buy stuff from sellers who have heaps of feedback ratings

Could have just been sitting away for over a year whilst eating up the manufacturers warranty

    • you're probably right here - this is a last generation Ryzen Laptop

      • Hey at least you’re able to return it :) good luck with it

Why in the hell you didn’t check prior to the purchase ?

    • My last purchase I bought was also Opened - never used, and that turned out Brand New (from same seller)

  • Was the laptop from a private seller or a business?

    • business

      • If it's from a business then I would expect a full warranty that hasn't started yet on an unused product you've purchased.

It would be something I would confirm before purchase

    • fair enough
