Which WD Blue SN550 Do I Have? Does SSD Cause Heat Throttle?

Hello,

I’ve recently purchased the WD Blue SN550 on the 10th of August.

On the 26th of August, according to an Ozbargain post, WD was known to have changed certain components in the WD SN550.

Is there a way to tell which version I’ve gotten?

Side question:
Is it normal for a SSD to cause heat throttling issues in a laptop? I’ve replaced my old SSD and my CPU temperature used to be 60 but has now increase to roughly 80 while gaming.

Thank you in advance :D

I think I got a slow one after copying a large file to the drive (18gb) and it slowed down to about 380mb/s towards the end
I don't think it affects anything except write speeds of large files larger than the slc cache (which I think is 16gb) - read speed is the same

    • That’s good to hear. Thank you :)

    • I've got one of these drives coming soon, hoping it won't be a problem for day-to-day use.

To clarify - this is only a problem when copying 1 x 16GB+ file (or whatever the size of the slc cache is), rather than a group of, say, 17 x 1GB files?

you need to read the firmware and markings on the chip to determine which version you have got
