Are Food Delivery Companies Paying Their Employees Better since They Jacked up The Delivery Fees and Added "Service" Fee?

I feel like I am being robbed every time I use one of those apps. Ends up costing $27 for a large meal from mcdonalds delivered. May as well just order a few pizzas and a drink for $8 more. I would then have food for the next 2 days.

You are…. So is the driver and so is the restaurant. The restaurant pays 30-35% of the total food in 'commission' and don't see a cent of that delivery fee or service fee.

    Insane these services.

For the first time I used ubereats the other week only to utilise a $30 welcome credit, still paid $19 for two burger meals. $49?

    Thanks Uber, and goodbye.

    • Yeah there's really nothing good value. Even getting "cheap" Thai or Vietnamese is pretty much $50 for two people with little leftovers! Outside of lockdownsv may as well go eat in the bloody restaurant!

I understand people have their reasons for having take home rather than eating out, but personally it's a no-brainer 99% of the time. Eating there the food is fresher, you get service, no washing up, a change in environment from the same old, interact with the actual establishment's personnel, etc. So much more value eating there rather than taking home.

I only use them with discounts and promos. Might as well eat into their marketing dollars since they're mostly shit at paying anyone but themselves.

  • I highly doubt it. I recommend not using them.

  • The execs need to line their pockets first, then share holders…then rise and repeat.

Doubt the workers are in that loop.

Uber has yet to EVER make a profit……Shareholders are not getting anything!

      • Oh maybe should have taken the share holders out of the loop. Was thinking of not trying to look hip companies.

        • Oh there is lots of pocket lining happening…. just not shareholders.

Shocking how this 'game changing' company has yet to make a profit EVER.

          • @JimmyF:

            'game changing'

Selling hope, and plenty line up to drink the koolaid.

  • I like receiving my food hot, very rarely does the food arrive hot.
You get a much better deal and experience picking it up yourself.

    • This, not sure why this is so difficult for people.

      • covid, 'safer' to have someone else get your food and bring it to you…….. /s

  • Personally work in this industry, and the answer is NO, A BIG FAT NO

The restaurants (including the higher restaurant managers, and like area managers etc.) ONLY care about the profits of the restaurant at most. But generally speaking, all delivery fees hikes are probably for the cost of service itself. (restaurants earn mostly the same whether be a instore order or delivery service order).

However, if you'd like some tip or wonder what food service is likely worst in terms of food quality delivered to you, I'd say its MENULOG, the interface is terrible for the restaurants. they cannot edit/modify order, i.e. e.g. time of pickup, out of stock for an item in a order or OOS for day etc.

Every-time restaurant has to call MENULOG, and they aren't much helpful either, and this is unlikely during busy times in Fast food restaurants that are often understaffed as usual.

Restaurant worker don't really get anything extra from company charging extra from customers. Only way restaurant workers get more $$ from same work is by
    a. Getting a payrise through rise in FAIRWORK AWARD/ OR SDA/any other union negotiations
    b. Getting promoted
    c. Getting older (from a junior age until 20/21 years old)
