Useless Couriers (Dragonfly/Amazon) - Who's Responsible When Stolen/Damages after They Leave It in a Bad Place

Just received a photo from Dragonfly of my Amazon order left in the middle of my front path exposed to the elements and easily visible to anyone who was passing. 2m away I've put a small shelf undercover for them to use.

Not the first time, although its probably the same clueless individual.

The Dragonfly FAQ disclaims all responsibility, their response to "My package was stolen" is laughable, "That's rotten luck" :(

What are other's experience of them and other couriers leaving stuff in poor locations and claiming for loss/damage? Fortunately I've not lost anything yet, but it must happen.

Had an Amazon parcel (Bluetooth Speaker) delivered, but was clearly to the wrong address. Photo of delivery location didn’t match any of the other Amazon delivery photos, so the driver was in the wrong.

Amazon firstly asked me to go check with my neighbours if any of them had it (utterly ridiculous), which they hadnt. I then got a refund from Amazon for the product, along with comments along the lines of "well the person that received it may deliver it to your house, and its ok for you to keep the item even though we refunded you. You should feel lucky we have done this gesture for you". Sure enough it never showed up - surely the GPS coordinates are logged at time of delivery and they can work it from there?

You should feel lucky I buy shit from you.

I don't know what Dragonfly is.

    Did you contact Amazon?

This happened to me and they said wait a few days and it might come.

It didn't then they said the useless stuff and I said read the previous ticket.
Then they instantly refunded my money.

    • Dragonfly is the delivery service Amazon sometimes uses
More and more of my Amazon orders are delivered with them instead of Australia Post

First time I've heard of Dragonfly. Pretty wild to see "That's rotten luck" is literally what they've written in their FAQ for stolen parcels followed by advice to contact the merchant, as if they've already ruled out their staff being partially responsible for possibly placing it in an unsafe location, delivering to the wrong address, etc.

Doesn't sound like a company I'd ever want to have delivering my parcels…

Yes, but you're probably someone who cares about the parcel being delivered.

Amazon would only care about the total cost - including the cost of the actual delivery, and any reshipping, replacement, etc costs.

The courier don't have any contract with you directly so unlikely to respond positively.

If you do get a package stolen, speak to Amazon directly and they'll sort it out. Their customer service is great. Same applies to other sellers, it's their responsibility to ensure products are delivered to you.

      Their customer service is great

Depends on the situation. For low value items, amazon will refund your money without too much fuss - but one too many claims and the algorithm will ban your account. Doesn't resolve the underlying problem where the delivery person will leave your parcel wherever they please. Or if you live in an apartment, right outside wherever they think the entrance is.

For higher value items, customer service will gaslight you into thinking you're at fault - you just haven't tried hard enough to recover the parcel. Never mind the picture proof doesn't even show anything remotely similar to your surroundings, or is a blurry mess that could have been taken anywhere. But hey, they'll do you a solid this time by refunding your money/re-sending the product (while subtly implying this incident will count against you).

I just get mine delivered to their pickup points nowadays.

I thought you were paraphrasing but it it actually says "That's rotten luck", lol
They are correct in saying you should contact the merchant, your transaction is with the seller not the courier.
The seller is responsible for chasing up the courier since delivery service is an agreement between them

I had my package with PS5 inside left visible on my front door step by these flops

  • I have mixed views.

In my experience, they take two photos. One of the letterbox and one of where the package is left. Usually at the front door. If they left it in a stupid place, they are incriminating themselves.

I've had more troubles with sending with sendle and australia post than receiving with dragonfly.

  • bit of a necro but first time receiving with dragonfly, onboard and due on friday, no delivery, onboard on saturday (despite marking business address not open on weekends) and attempted saturday. onboard monday and no delivery attempt, onboard tuesday and no delivery attempt… and repeat until it crosses amazons threshold for being considered lost… (couple days more)
