Altitude Points Unable to Redeem - As Card Cancelled

Hi,

I had Westpac credit card for last few years and I was able to accumulate 135K points on that card and due to some late payments I had to cancel the card by paying lump sum balance and closing it. While closing I did ask about points and they advised (overseas call centre being closing Credit Card Department) that points would remain with the account. I've closed the account March 2021.

Recently tried calling Westpac to redeem points but they said the points been elapsed because I have cancelled the card.
135K point is a lot and is there any method or process I can take it on to get those points back? OR is it all gone and never going to see again?

Did any body had similar scenario with success ? If so appreciate if you could share the method you've approached.

Thanks in advance.

You went passed the period ( i think 90 days) which they will keep the points after closing the account. Nothing more that can be done. Take it as a learning experience. Spend all the points before the account is closed.

6.1 How long do you have to use
    your Points?

Altitude Points do not expire while your Card Account is open and you remain enrolled in Altitude Rewards. If your Card Account is closed, you must use your Points within 90 days.

What did they say when you rang them?

but they said the points been elapsed because i have cancelled the card.

    • The call center operator could see my points on her screen and next minute she said NO they all been elapsed, the reason she said is because i have cancelled the card and didn't redeem, hence points elapsed.

  • You're unable to redeem them as they only last 90 days, it's there in the T's&C's. They're correct in that the points remain with the account after closure. However you do have the 90 day time period to use them otherwise they're forfeited.

  • Always redeem points/credits etc BEFORE closing the account.

I've cancelled my Westpac card in January. They certainly do not go out of their way to tell you about this 90 days rule when you cancel and have significant point balance. I lost 550k points because of fine print.

    • oops so sorry to hear, mine is drop compare to yours.

I cancelled mine in April, and the 90 days is mentioned in the account closure letter.

You have been advised of the legitimate reason you cannot redeem your points.

      Late payments are YOUR doing.

Cancelling the card is YOUR doing.

Not reading the T&C's are YOUR doing.

Not spending the points is YOUR doing.

      Altitude does not equal Virgin.
      They're two different point schemes.
      Apples and Oranges.
      Virgin is 18 months
Altitude is 90 days from closure.

I was in the impression that all points has same conditions, but NOT!!

At this stage OP has to be a Troll

Doesn't matter what your impression may be. Learn to read the T&C in future and don't believe what call centers make up tell you.

Your points are gone. Wipe your eyes, blow your nose, and move on.
