Best Value Laptop - Budget $1500 (Give or Take)

I'm due for a new laptop as my Surface Pro 3 is crawling like an intoxicated slug.

My budget is around $1500 and I'm looking for something that's fairly portable (I travel for work) and would be good for media - photoshop/video production/music recording and producing etc.

My kids would like it to be good for gaming but that's definitely a lower priority!

Can anyone suggest anything decent and available?

  For the kind of work that you do an M1 Macbook Air should outperform most Windows laptops in this price range quite substantially.

  I agree with the above. MacBook Air m1. If you can wait a little they are going to announce MacBook Pro in October so with a bit of luck you could pick the 2020 pro for around your budget (which would perform better for games).
  The new MacBook Air will be announced next year, but I don’t think you would be able to wait that long I presume?

    Nothing too large or heavy because of my travel. I'll always be using an external monitor when at the office, so maybe 14" would be enough?
