Not the lowest price seen on OzBargain but the lowest from Amazon according to CamelCamelCamel . The Playstation 4 version doesn't include the Mixamp.

I currently have a Sennheiser G4ME ZERO and I was looking for a replacement with good/better impedance and the Astro A40 seems like a great option. There are newer EPOS/Sennheiser cheaper than this (lower impedance), so do your research before buying.

Edit 1: added "free delivery" in the title

Edit 2: [EXPIRED] thanks @doweyy for the catch re: Xbox one version -> A40 TR + Mixamp M80

Edit 3: Both PS4 and Xbox One (without mixamp) now at $159

For Xbox players, seems like the A40 TR + Mixamp M80 is $119.95 also :)

    • great catch… I didn't check the Xbox option before buying, I'd assume the headset is exactly the same… (I'll update the post)

    • Does the XBOX one work with PC? Work with Series X?

      • I don't know… but my finger is scratching to cancel the order for the PS4 version and get the Xbox One…

        • are you on playstation? because i'm also looking to buy. somehow the xbox version is $40 cheaper, but i'm on ps5…

          • @hate: I'm on PS4… it depends on the connector jack in the controller for the PS5 (is there a headset connector in the PS5 controller?)

I'm gambling a bit, decided to cancel the PS4 version order and get the Xbox version. Based on other people's comments, it seems the headset itself is platform agnostic.

            • @hvbarg: so… the gamble paid off, the headset is platform agnostic and it comes with a standard 3.5mm jack and cable. Now I need to figure out what to do with the spare Mixamp M80.

      • It does

      • The specs list compatibility with Series X/S.

The headset comes with a 5-pole (headset) to 4-pole (output) 3.5mm cable. If you're plugging that into a combo audio jack (TRRS), it'll work out of the box. If you're plugging it into separate mic and headphone jacks, you'll need a splitter cable.

        • that makes my assumption of the headset itself being platform agnostic true… Cancelled the PS4 version order and getting the Xbox version

        • What about the Amp M80?
I assume that only compatible with Xbox One? and not the X|S?

  • Ooh i want the mixamp but it seems a bit pricey do you guys know of any alternatives?

    • I have good news for you… I decided to cancel my order for the PS4 version and got the Xbox version with the Mixamp. But since I don't own an Xbox I can sell the mixamp to you for cheap. (if this is against OzBargain policy, please feel free to delete this post)

      • Ah I'm looking at a mixamp for PC i think the one that comes with this for the controller?

        • yep, the M80 seems to be Xbox specific and connects directly in the controller.

          • +1

@hvbarg: Website lists PC/Mac as supporting the mix amp M80 but obviously you’d need to be playing on an Xbox controller

got this when it was available for $146 including the mixamp

    • can you confirm whether the cable and jack that comes with the headset are standard connectors? (not the mixamp)

    • 2 years ago and including the mixamp for $146? might wanna hold off on this one then..

      • looks like the mixamp model is slightly different than the one in this post

        • +2

Different design, same result. Don't forget that there are no optical ports on the xbox now.. So it rendered the mixamp useless when it comes to dolby digital and as a pass through only, you can't even load sound profiles. This is a good deal for the xbox owners looking for a headset, the volume/sound adapter is a bonus.l but you can do this via party chat anyway. A40 Headsets have the same drivers as the a10 headset.

          • @Aliensf: What makes the headset great is the mixamp pro. Not sure how good the M80 amp is.

            • @congo: The mixamp is useless now though since you can't use profiles on the xbox. You could look up sound profiles that tune to make the headset sound amazing, download profiles etc.
Now you can't and stuck using dolby atmos or dts x app.
The m80 is just a hand add on helping you mute the headset via controller

              • @Aliensf: Thanks.
So $100 is about the right price then.

                • @congo: Absolutely, can't go wrong with this deal.

    • That the Mixamp Pro, which would be superior to the M80?
      EDIT:
M80 is stereo while the Pro is virtual surround sound.
From reviews the Mixamp Pro is much better than the M80 but also double the price!

    • thats the 2017 version of the mixamp, this one is 2019 apparently (been looking into buying a quality headset myself)

  • What does the MixAmp do? Was reading the Razer Blackshark V2 are the best for wired gaming. So how do the headset alone compare. Rtings doesnt have a review just for the A40s (without the mixamp)

    Edit:

The MixAmp Pro TR features Dolby audio Sound processing and enables lag and interference free delivery of game sound and voice communication to the A40 TR Headset (sold separately). Its simple controls allow for quick adjustment of game-to-voice balance settings, determining how much game sound and voice chat is heard.

    • The M80 is not the same as the mixamp pro TR. its mostly just physical controls for voice/game volume, mute, and an EQ.

    • Headsets are all the same, ranging from the a10 and the a50.
Since Microsoft removed the optical ports the dolby digital feature and equalisers no longer function of you connect via USB only on xbox.

  • I am still using my Original A40s i bought with the Wireless Mixamp (which is no longer supported as Series X has no optical output) like 10 years ago. Fantastic headphones for gaming.

I currently pair them with a Plantronics Rig voice chat adapter that plugs into my Xbox controller. Also work great with the Microsoft Chat adapter.

I would buy these but I just bought some new memory foam ear/strap cushions and they have a new lease on life.

Highly recommended at this price for the headset - I paid over $400 importing them from the USA before you could buy Astros locally, and I was happy at that price. $150/119 is a decent price and way better than some others on the market.

    • I'm still using a set of Halo 5 M40 Gen 2s, and can generally agree. I'm long overdue a set of replacement ear pads though, which seem to be a bit tougher for find for the these older models. $120 for the model with the Mixamp M80 is a great deal.

        got my replacement pads here.

        https://misodiko.com/

        • Cheers for the link!

          • @tmr3: i should note that they just tell you to buy the A40 TR cushions and fit them to the removable ring with the doublesided adhesive they have on the earcups.

I got memory foam velour ones and they are a bit of an upgrade over the original ones in terms of comfort. the head strap is again, not the same on A40 vs TR but had no issue using the TR head cushion on my OGs.

shipping takes a long time, too.

Was about to buy the Xbox version with mix amp. Deal is gone. RIP

  • Are these any good without the mix amp pro? Got the deal for $120.

    • the audio quality when compared to my Sennheiser G4ME ZERO is pretty much the same, maybe a bit crisper… for comfort I'll give the Sennheiser the edge since it feels lighter and the earcups are PU Leather. The standard cups on this Astro are Velour (fabric), which I will replace by PU Leather as soon as they wear out a bit.

So, if you don't care for the mixamp which will defo complement and improve sound performance, I would go for the Sennheiser G4ME ZERO that are now selling at MWave and Scorptec for $149
