Inspiron 5675 Using CPU Cooler in Standard B450/B550 Motherboard

Hi,

So it is a bit of a weird question since I need to change the case/psu and motherboard due to some faults and has been out of waranty. I wanted to build my first desktop but with prices atm I am willing to reuse my GPU (AMD 580 8gb) and Ryzen 7 1700x, I know some B550 does not support Zen 1 cpu but I read some forums that MSI b550 might be able to (also looking to upgrade to 5600X in the future) if i flash a certain version of bios.

My main question is that will I be able to reuse the CPU cooler that came with the dell device or will I have to purchase one myself to fit into the b550 motherboard? I am asking coz dell likes to use proprietary stuff like their cables, mb and PSU.

Thank you for any suggestions.

  • It looks like Dell used the standard AM4 mounting solution, meaning you should be able to continue using the stock cooler that came with your Inspiron desktop. This guy was able to replace the stock Dell cooler with a AMD Wraith cooler on the original Dell OEM motherboard — meaning that Dell has retained the same stock mounting mechanism.

It seems that some people report Zen1 CPU working fine in B550 motherboards, even on fairly recent BIOS revisions. Most likely your CPU will work fine right out of the box, if it doesn't you'd probably need to downgrade to a older generation motherboard.

    • Thank a lot for linking the articles! I'm quite optimistic it works but worst to worst I'll end up getting a 5600x and sell my 1700x
