Apple iPad with Cellular - Best Options?

Hi all,
I have an old iPad air, I think it's about 5-6 years old, 32 GB, which I have not used in a while but have had to recently.

I charged it fully one day, then turned it off then tried to use it the next day and it (the battery) was completely dead. I suppose it's just deteriorated very badly now.

Does anyone know if
A. It's worth getting the battery replaced, how much would this cost, how much effort is it going to take, particularly since we're still in lockdown or
B. If I should get a new iPad (current version not the new one coming) (is this cheaper than the new one coming?) or
C. Get the new incoming iPad? I think it's $699 for the 64gb version which should be enough for me.

Thanks

iPad batteries are about $30 on eBay and can be replaced yourself with a guide on iFixit.com

    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPad+Air+LTE+Battery+Replacemen…

Your call if you would rather do that and keep that going or get a brand new one with better performance and features.

    • Thanks, I'm not very technically inclined. I looked at ifixit before and the instructions seemed complicated - at risk of busting the screen, circuitry etc. Hence I would need someone to fix it for me.🤦‍♀️

      • it's actually not that hard to replace the battery on older iphone/ipads… i did it just by following a youtube video

I'd give it a go for $30. If it works out fine, if not buy a new one.

  • If you don't have the know how prob best to just replace it. iPad air would be on iOS 12 so eventually a number of apps will require an updated version to be able to run

    • I've had a look between current and coming soon models of iPad. Am I right in concluding that the current ones are actually more expensive than the new ones coming?

I think it's iPad air gen 4 vs iPad gen 9. The former is older but faster chip, bigger screen etc but more expensive compared to the latter.

Most iPads have glued-in screens which makes battery replacement much more difficult than it should be.

New iPad is a better option; keep the other as a wired dock like a kitchen tablet for recipes, music etc

  • We're also looking for new iPad, albeit 11" Pro —- preferably model 2018 > 2020 > 2021
